Information on 2024 Tacoma Factory Part Defect:

Last week on my 2024 TRD I noticed the rubber/seal trim piece that runs across the bottom of the windshield separating from the glass. The rubber seal is attached to the plastic piece where my index finger is. A 4-inch section right in the middle and a 1-inch section on the corner of the passenger side. Close inspection revealed what I believed to be a defect in the plastic piece not being symmetrical with the windshield in those two spots. Had a service appointment this morning to address this issue. Spoke with the service manager and expressed my concerns and thoughts. They took the truck into the service bay, and I walked the lot and looked at all eight Tacoma's they had. Low and behold, all eight had the exact same issue in the exact same spots. The service manager called me and asked me to return to service. I arrived and he had the plastic piece in his hands and agreed there was a defect. He had also looked at the three Tacoma's he had in the service bay and all three were also a match. Toyota of Olympia will be submitting the paperwork to the Toyota design engineers for correction of this defect. I would guess the casting mold for this part is defective. How many of you have this defect? The picture does not show the separating rubber seal. It is meant to illustrate the defective part.

I'm surprised the rubber was sealed against the glass.

I do not understand, it is not symmetrical or does it leak?

Thx for posting OP. You were abundantly clear in describing the defect. TW doesn't like when folks rock the boat, so don't take it personally.

The important part to me was that the dealership agreed it was an issue. Some people are just nitpicking things. I'm still a touch confused about what was being described, but if it is what I'm thinking, it is pretty minor. That piece doesn't really play any role other than keeping large debris out and cosmetics. It doesn't actually seal anything.

It's incredible how many of the above posters likely didn't read what the OP wrote, and likely just looked at the thread title and the photo and decided to respond.

Everything is explained in the text the op wrote.

I have the same issue on my truck. @New old guy, did the dealership tell you (or do you know) if this is anything other than a cosmetic issue? Thank you for posting.

Off Topic: Even if it is just cosmetic, the number of "Small" Fit and Finish Discrepancies combined with a number of software quirks that 2024 Tacoma owners such as myself are experiencing are adding up. I love the truck as a whole but am disappointed in Toyota. I moved into this from a 2003 Tundra on which the only corrective maintenance I ever did was replace valve cover gaskets and a radiator. Toyota set the bar high and are failing to live up to the standard I became accustomed to.

No I can be a real moron, so my wife tells me. But, I have read it a few times and do not get it. His index finger is near the hood and pointing at what and what defect?

His first sentance is "Last week on my 2024 TRD I noticed the rubber/seal trim piece that runs across the bottom of the windshield separating from the glass.". Hist last sentence is "The picture does not show the separating rubber seal. It is meant to illustrate the defective part.".

If you look along the edge of the part / windshield you'll see the separation. I guess people can debate if this separation is normal or a defect like the OP says.
