My neighbors have synthetic grass in their backyard and babysit dogs for a lot of people. I started getting fly traps at HD and hanging them up. I put them visible in front of their kitchen window and back patio sitting area. I mean they could at least hose off the turf. Thank goodness I'm moving in a week.

synthetic grass and dog excrement, gross!!
i figured you gotta hose that stuff off every few days at least..
i can't imagine how gross that could get

my dog goes poop in the neighbor's front yard, right along the road - i go scoop it every 3-4 days
i hate hitting 'landmines' with my mower so i am not gonna make my neighbor suffer either [even tho they tell me to not worry about it]

I agree with this, but with the caveat that genetics is important when you have a bunch of backyard breeders trying to appeal to potential owners who want dogs for all the wrong reasons. The resulting offending frankenstein dogs are very far removed from their original heritage, and are bred with aggression and over-exaggerated musculature as targets rather than traits to avoid. It turns into a supply/demand feedback loop, and then we end up where we are now.

Satoshi, debadged, rear view mirror bracket, tail gate hose clamps, trimmed mud flaps.
and if they eat toilet paper/paper towels (like my knucklehead of a french bulldog), their poop doesn't dissolve quickly lol

Yet my neighbors have a pit bull that was bred to hunt hogs - aka bred to be aggressive, to attack indiscriminately and not back down till it is mortally wounded; she is also ripped AF.
They took the dog from a family member who was a piss poor dog owner and gave her the structure she needed to shine. Now she is sweet as can be because she has great owners that set boundaries and enforce their expectations of proper behavior.

Dogs are animals, with their own pack structure; if you don't enforce that pack structure, they will act like feral animals, including biting.

Bad breeders + slack owners are a recipe for disaster.
Most people grossly underestimate the need to train and discipline their dogs. Failure to do either can result in a dangerous animal. That is the fault of the humans, not the dog.

There are no inherently bad dogs but there are a lot of bad owners that create bad dogs via their negligence.

About half of what you say has some legitimacy. Genetics play a huge role in what abilities and behaviors dogs exhibit. Bird dogs point, scent hounds track, herding dogs... you get the idea.

Pit types have been bred for a purpose too. Abilities dogs are bred to have are an extension of the natural prey drive. Pits are bred to focus and to have tenacity, which is why they are great in fighting rings and for hunting hogs. But if they are triggered with a human being as a target they use the same genetic propensities in a very specific attack pattern. This is why pits have been at the extreme top of the stats since becoming popular as pets... even before they became populated in large numbers.

I know people have very little understanding of these facts and are motivated by their own experiences and desires, but in the end most people that are killed by pits are either loving owners or complete strangers out for a walk. It may be difficult to accept the invisible genetic potential that hides within the breeds involved, but the stats don't lie.

I've come across similar behavior in my past long time ago. In my case individual had ancestral spirits that he tried to confuse so as not to bring them into the house.

Forgive me, I get side tracked.

Can anyone link me to the " I want stories about lunatic neighbor" thread.

Learned behaviour can be unlearned too.

My friend had a pitbull. He started his life as a bait dog. Was thrown from a moving car when they had no more use for him. My friend rescued him and the few times I was at her house he was a great dog. Liked to jump a bit but he'd put his paws on your shoulders and hug you.

Yep I remember when my dad told us we were moving there my response was where is that ? Lol he had to show me where it was on a map. In my parent's defense it was either move there or not have a job because his position was eliminated in San Antonio at the time. So we lived there for four years and moved as soon as we could lol

my neighbor likes to throw her tree trimmings over the fence to my side, I guess because sometimes my tree drops leaves on her side?

or when i diligently try to trim branches from hanging over her side, they fall down before i can catch it. i dunno why she cant just throw a couple of those small branches into her green bin and be done with it

We rent our house, but the owner tells us that the guy next door is frequently calling him complaining about the sycamore tree in our backyard that stretches over his and wants it "cut back", so every once in awhile he has his guy come out and do it.

I find it funny because this neighbor has an enormous oak tree in his yard which has branches going out over our yard as well as the houses on every other side.
