Ok so I've got a new taco and I absolutely love it (2021 trd sport w/ the long bed and crew cab). The only thing I noticed with it is there's a bubble like there's a pocket of air stuck under the rubber pad of the charger. Just was curious if anyone else has had this happen before I go busting open the dash. I'll add pictures when I get the chance.

I got rid of that piece of junk and swapped to the simple plastic tray that comes in the base models. Removed the switch (after the photo was taken) and put in a factory blank so it looks completely stock, as if I never had the charger. I prefer it this way for sure.

The reality is the charger doesn’t work well as a charger and the bubbling just makes it even more useless. You can either replace the bubbled rubber mat for about $55ish or you can do what I did. Or just leave it. I don’t use my plastic tray that often daily, but on road trips it’s nice to empty my pockets into.

Would making a pinhole in it let the trapped air out or does the pad just stretch like that?

Nope. It's not an air bubble, it's more like the adhesive behind it dry's out and detaches from the charging pad.

Agree! The wireless charger is junk and when it actually works it barely gives me a percent increase in 30 minutes

Do you recall how that button is connected? I recently swapped mine out and I want to put a blank switch.

Just like any standard Toyota switch, a tab on top and bottom that lock the switch into the hole. Just pinch the tabs and sort of rotate the switch backward out of the hole. Then push the new blank in from behind.

Sorry. I meant where is the button connected? If you push it it still "turns on", so I was wondering if it was wired up to the head unit or something.

It’s just got a connector on the backside that hooks it to dash power and such. Just unplug it.

Sounds like I found a place to wire pods or a light bar.

A place to put a switch for them, yes. Wiring for that switch you add, would still need to be done by you.

Yessir. I’m trying to hold off on buying stuff like that. However, if I do at least I know I can wire up the switch using that spot.

Thanks. I'll have to take a look when it isn't over triple digit temps.

My charge pad bubbled within the first half a year of owning the truck. Had the TSB linked above performed for free at a dealership, and no issues since in over 3 years of use. It replaces the charge pad with a new part number piece that fixes the issue, so it's not just replacing with the same defective piece that will fail again.
