I think this is your best option if your friend is willing to bring it to your location. Just make sure you compensate him with a case of his "favorite beverage" and sneak an envelope into the tractor in some place where he can find it with some gas money for delivery and the return trip. ;)

I had my 2,800 lb tent trailer without trailer brakes try to push itself right through me one time in a panic stop. I was pulling it with a full-size Ford wagon. (Think: "Griswold Wagon Queen Family Truckster") That event made a major impression on me. Before the next trip, I had electric trailer-brakes installed on it, and eventually stepped up to a Bronco (full-size)to tow it.

My larger point is that in these many towing threads I think we focus too much on weights and brakes at the expense of the basic skills required to tow a trailer of any weight. It’s not rocket science, but I would encourage anyone that is considering towing anything any non-trivial distance to get some practice and/or coaching. You can learn the basics in an afternoon.

Like most have said, it's doable but takes some practice and trailer brakes are a must. I move my 4500 pound tractor on a 1700 pound trailer a few times a year. Almost maxed towing capacity but it still handled well. Keep below 60 and watch the road far ahead for issues.
