I'll just go ahead and tell the backstory:
I have a '14 Taco with 4.0 V6, and was checking the state of the solenoids. Got the left one reinstalled, happy to be done, was putting the cursed bolt in and then, "clunk."
Dude.... I can't believe out of all places for this bolt to fall into, it's behind and inside the dang fan pulley wheel. A 2-inch opening.
So yeah. I need to know how difficult is it to remove the engine fan and in turn, this pulley wheel to retrieve the bolt?

    Pretty sure they are 12mm.

Its very easy but make sure you take the tension off the belt.

Not up on that engine, but maybe first try a flexible magnet on a stick. Maybe rock the truck to try and move it to one side if you can't get a good reach.

I always cuss it first. My neighbors love when I work on stuff in the driveway.

Faye Hadley has a video on water pump replacement for a 2nd gen with the 4.0, it should show removal of the fan and it's pulley. Hopefully this is what you were looking for.

If only the bolt wasn't aluminum.... the gap behind the pulley wheel is so narrow I even tried to configure a garden staple to try and push the bolt out if it could reach but it didn't work.

Thank you for the video and because of it, though it's taken me almost 5 hours to do and torn my arm up, I managed to remove just the fan and pulley and found the bolt. Not today stealership.
