Can you explain the steps to remove the adapter? Thanks

The adapter is originally mounted in a rectangular hole at the bottom of the center console storage box. I removed the center console (the entire piece, spanning from box to in front of shifter) using the video instructions from the Z Precision larger cupholder mod install video:

    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=qxdZdo__4l8&feature=youtu.be

The console pops out within a couple minutes as shown in the vid, then once you have access to the backside of the USB adapter you can just push it out of its rectangular hole and stick it to the inside wall with double-sided tape. To do so doesn't require you to manipulate the original wiring as it is sufficiently long.

To me at least, this makes the OEM USB adapter usable whereas before it was always too buried to bother looking for.

For nearly permanent but non-damaging double-sided tape, I like to use this as it doesn't leave the foam mess that foam VHB double sided tape does:

    https://www.homedepot.com/p/3M-1-in...ble-Sided-Mounting-Tape-410H-MED-DC/318736206

As a last step I covered the original mounting hole with black Gorilla Tape (similar to duct tape but seems to be somewhat more permanent).

Probably the cheapest mod and one i have done to mine and many friends as well. Zip tied fiberglass window screening behind the grill from top to bottom. Been 10 years now and not a single bent fin, rock or bug in both the rad and AC condenser.
I leave it loose so things don't punch thru. Like the net at the end of a golf driving range.

That is a good idea for the OR grill especially.

lol. i actually made a base unit out of some old stuff (which is where i got the altimeter from.)
it had an altimeter, a vor direction display (i forget tech name for it), a nav/comm, and an ancient aviation gps.
i used rabbit ears and made a gps antenna and it all worked - just plugged into cigarette lighter in vehicle.
i used to take it on road trips just to listen to vor weather (atis), atc, ctaf, towers, etc. this is all about 25 yrs ago.
then the freq display on the nav/comm went out and i wondered what i would do with it all (and why i spent so much time on it)
and then thought of pulling the altimeter for the taco. i guess a little off topic :)
ps. i'm not active anymore...toys from a bygone era.

My bud and I drilled a harbor freight wheel chock in the bed. Made hauling bikes easier for my sport bike peeps out there.

Awesome story. Thanks for sharing. I have had this clock in my possession for many years. A gift from my flight instructor after my first solo. It still works fine. I wished I could have found a smaller version that would fit in the dash blanks I have had in cars and trucks over the years.

mine was nicely sized to fit in cup holder pretty snuggly. i believe back in this thread someone else had an electronic altimeter.
does that really function as an altimeter or is it just a clock? (which the taco sorely needs as well - i keep HU display off until i need it.)

Just a clock. If you look closely you'll see it has a "built-in" 2,000 foot "error". "Poetic License?"

Yep. If it was made and sold today, it would probably be required to have sticker that proclaimed: "Notice: Not for use in Civilian or Commercial Aircraft" :D
