Hey guys, this is my first time dealing with something like this, someone fall asleep and hits me from behind today.

I don’t really want to lose my Tacoma, but I don’t know if this damage could be a total loss. What do you guys think?

note: I’m still paying it, I just got my Taco last year and my credit situation is far from ideal to get a new loan…

Sorry, hopefully everyone is okay. Best to notify your insurance and let them make the call.

Thanks, I was driving alone, and I barely felt the hit, that truck is a monster! I’m super impressive they way my Taco took that hit like champ!

Geez I hate that for ya. I would push to get the truck totaled and they probably will. They total vehicles more now than ever before due to the cost of parts and availability of parts and labor costs. With a bent frame I would not want it back.

from previous posts about damage to vehicles from accidents, when the frame is bent the truck seems to be deemed a total loss. i see the truck is a 2017, how many miles on the truck? that may factor in to repair vs. total.

if they decide to repair it and replace the frame, it might take a while to get a replacement frame. something to consider is how long you can be without a truck and will the insurance of the person at fault cover a rental vehicle. ??

If I was a betting man, I'd put money on that being totaled. My non expert opinion

Hard to say till they start tearing it down … hope the other driver had good insurance .my personal opinion frame and cab damage doesn’t end well .i always felt the rear taillights on these trucks are not sufficient enough causing rear end collisions.

I hope it was not a hit and run and hope the other driver has good insurance.

Go through their insurance for the whole claim and let your insurance company deal with it.

Just double check just in case you have GAP insurance.

Would you be able to tell us how much you got your truck for and how many miles were on the truck when you got it versus now? You don't have to answer this but how much do you have left on the loan?

This will possibly get you a chance to start over again and you will be able to take the money and get something that fits your financial situation better.

I doubt it's totalled, but you'll likely wish it was after they fix it. Might go down the road slightly sideways and make noises or feel funny during a turn either to the right or left. I had a Nissan hard body that should have been totalled but wasn't after a rear ending. Truck always felt like it was off on turns to the right and always made a buzzy feeling during right turns. Felt like it needed less steering input to go left than right. Guessing your truck will be flipped the other way if affected. Hope not though. Don't know if that's measurable by inspecting the cross members of the chassis.

Great point! If no one was hurt, this could be a blessing.

Depends on the official policy ... just replace the vehicle on the existing loan, or requalify. Many options for less-than-perfect credit that maybe can be re-financed later at better terms, which may be the only options available. Or they just keep the same terms and replace the vehicle ... I will not speculate on the possibility of that.

    Good luck to the OP.

Frame is bent in the back , but yeah insurance can also say its fixable .Usually the body shop makes that call.

Sorry this happened to you. If you need something older, or even a classic car if your Taco gets totaled let's talk. I have several garages of classic and muscle cars. Some of them like the old FOrd LTD boats that had big 460s in them haven't appreciated like others. If you want something just to get you around I can get you into something that I am sure is in your budget. Like an old 4 door boat with a 460 big block, to a 454 Chevelle. DM. I think the LTD high books for like 6k. I'd sell it for mid book just to free up a garage spot.

did you see the wire harness in the back dangling? possibly damaged the bsm and back up camera, both are expensive components. As much i love my tacoma i would want this to be a total loss .
