Thats funny, they might have sold it to my family! Thats about when my grandfather moved his family from CA and bought a farm in Otisco. WHat was the last name? I can ask my dad

Noticed my (new)battery voltage was dropping down to about 12 so I fully charged it last night, threw it back in this AM. Tested voltage in different spots in the engine bay, this is the results (not my engine bay fyi):

    upload_2024-5-22_12-30-42.png

Is it fair to assume I have a bad battery cable grounded to the engine block given I'm only seeing 5.5V on a fully charged brand new battery? I am still getting no interior lights, no radio, no dash lights, no crank.

If you know the model engine that you have you can do a Google search including the engine model number, the year and your search terms like, "engine ground points" and that should give you all the various ground points to verify that you have all of them.

Edit: You may also want to check interior ground points as well.

There is a 1st generation Tacoma thread here on TW. I would post in that thread asking for pictures of that ground point from someone who has a not rusted, in decent shape, somewhat original Tacoma. That way you can compare notes with other 1st Gen owners. Plus it would not be the first time that published information was wrong. Better to get confirmation that the ground point actually exists then to chase your tail finding a ground point that never existed.

Got around to swapping the ignition switch today. Thought there was a decent chance that was the issue.

Well the good news is I got it running. Bad news is I'm an idiot. I went and double checked all my fuses again and lo and behold, my main 80a fuse was indeed blown. No idea how I missed that earlier, I thought I had checked everyhting. I jumped that and it started right up. :frusty::frusty::frusty: Ton of aggravation and money spent it was a $5 fuse in the end. I guess the silver lining is I have a new battery and starter which were both gonna need to be replaced eventually.

New 80a fuse acquired and installed. Starts right up now, no issues. Blew some mouse nests out the exhaust and it sounds like I picked up a new hole in there somewhere, its a little louder than I remember

For those interested in how to get at the main fuse, basic steps are:

    1. Completely remove battery from vehicle. It prevents you from getting shocked and its also in the way of the bolts you need to access
    2. There are 3 i believe 10M bolts holding the entire fuse box assembly to the truck. Remove all 3 so you can wiggle it around
    3. Theres a bunch of plastic clips holding the top half of the fuse box to the lower half. (I think there were about 6 total, use a small flathead to pry them all apart)
    4. once all the clips are pried apart, wiggle the top and bottom half of the fuse box apart. This is a PITA, go slow and try not to break anything
    5. The main fuse is being held in place by 2 small screws, one on each side. This is why you cant just pull it out. Use a screwdriver and remove those two screws.
    6. Once those are out, you should be able to remove the old fuse and replace it with a new one. Then just reverse the steps.

Got everything back together and brakes bled. Runs good, stops ok, I feel like I must have some bubbles still in a line somewhere bc I dont think it was stopping as well as it was before, but its officially into "good enough" territory where I can drive it around again.

Drive around a few days and bleed again.
Also make sure the back brakes are adjusted properly, they will give you a low pedal when not up to par.
