I see they’re all hens in the picture; do you need a rooster in the brood? I have raise chicken when I was kid back home, but we didn’t have the sophisticated set up as this.

If you leave the eggs unwashed and put them in the fridge they will last up to 6 months, or you can water lime store them for up to a year.

A 96” long shaft, turned down on each end to 1.9375” with a .250” keyway. Seems small but whatever.

No roosters here, they're not required unless you want to raise your own chicks.

If left unwashed, eggs don't need refrigeration either. Ours just sit on the counter. We've also water glassed extra eggs in the past. 6 dozen fit nicely in a 2 ½ gallon pail. They are good for a year, also without requiring refrigeration, although they get a bit watery and are best scrambled, or used in baking. We have gone a full year (maybe a bit more) just to experiment.

    Interesting.....

I was at a funeral a couple of years ago and met one of my brother in laws cousins. He is from Minn or WI and their family has somewhere north of 1 million layers as well. He also told me about one of their barns burning some years back. He has a very peculiar name, looked like a hippie from the 60's, and is a lawyer. :notsure:

He said they sold mostly to big companies like McDonald's and huge bakeries. They pick up the eggs in tanker trucks and transport them as a liquid.

That’s up in my neck of the woods, Baldwin county Alabama is just across the line in Alabama. I did a lot of my Coast Guard time at Sector Mobile, AL. Is your BIL a crew chief or rescue swimmer? Those guys were lucky, both for having a sat phone and a helo close by.
