Hello everyone, I recently bought a 2023 Tacoma SR5. I'm not overly fond of the dark grey mag rims. I'm looking at a set of rims/tires off a 3rd gen. Tacoma TRD off road that a tire shop has for sale. My question is will the TRD rims TPMS sensors work with my TPMS system on my SR5. If so, will it just be a plug and play? Or will I need to have the sensors programmed by a tech at a shop?
I don't know what the model year of Tacoma the TRD rims are off of. All I know is that the TRD rims are 3rd gen like my SR5.

Anyone with any insight on this would be appreciated.

You will need to have the new 4 sensor ID# read, uploaded, and programmed into your Tacomas ECU.

Can any tire shop do this? Or is this something the dealer needs to do? I just traded my '23 TRDOR wheel setup for a '21 TRD pro setup and obviously the tpws reset doesn't work. Not something I was thinking about before hand.

    To give the sorta-snarky answer,

To program the new TPMS addresses requires the use of a $500 tool. Any tire shop that possesses neither this tool nor a single tech that was trained how to use it, is not a tire shop that I would want to visit. :cookiemonster::cookiemonster:

(Most shops do have a programmer. Most legitimate shops, at least.)

Tire shops can do it, but some sensors are not compatible.toyota uses a dual band tpms sensor. 1 band is for low pressure warning and the other is for pressure.

A tire shop broke one of my sensors once and they programmed in the replacement but my truck was stuck in "judging" mode meaning that the tire pressure would never show up.

You can manually set which tire is which e.g. tpms sensor A is front left using techstream, but you'll need to continue manually setting it every time you rotate tires.

Take the sensors out of your current wheels and put them in the new wheels.

Most can program the new ID#s into your truck.
