It looks like they did replace the pump.
The 2013+ trucks had software changes in the ECM to address the issue.
My understanding is, the 2012 ECM is not capable of being updated to 2013 “software”.

Don’t let it scare you. You still have a great truck.
I”d drive it and deal with it IF, the problem shows up later.

The problem is, the parts can be expensive to fix it.

And deleting it all together may not be an option “later”.
Which means, you’ll have more expense.
Not the end of the world.
    Totally fixable, just irritating.

The replacement pump was a redesigned model. The UNI filter won't fit on the redesigned pumps.

Oh, interesting, good to know. Is it a better design, or just different?

My 2020 4Runner had the same style as my 2012 Taco (same Unifilter fit), so I just assumed they were all the same.

You will need the standard mag wheel lugnuts, buy a set off ebay from a Toyota dealer or Amazon.

I had those wheels and ran black lugs.

keep a set of the steel wheel lug nuts though. useful if you need to run the steel wheel spare for an extended period of time

Yep. Another 2012 checking in. The Unifilter mod is cheap and easy. Might as well just do it for temp peace of mind like TnShooter said, regardless of plans.

Any 16x139.7 (aka 6x5) lugs will work. I also did 3rd gen takeoffs.

The Uni-Filter "mod" applies/works on a 2014 v6 FWIW. You do it to eliminate the pump from sucking in the foam filter to the innards and taking out a $1,000 down-wind "gizmo". I believe the 2013 program "update" added an air-purge action on shut-down to purge any moisture which is equally bad. It's worth 10 minutes of your time to remove the cover and check/confirm the foam filter status. If there's no Uni-Filter mod showing at the intake, you're on borrowed time.

These are two different size lug nuts, right? So which ones do I want? I'm going to be ordering them soon and want to make sure I'm getting the right ones.

The ones I posted will work, the aluminum wheels use different lugs than the steel wheels. Also the tpms sensors are different if you care about them actually working.

To be safe you can nab the OEM ones Agoldxj showed you.

6×5.5 and 6x139.7 (not 16, my bad was posting on the phone) are the same. 6 just means there's 6 bolt/lug holes and they're spaced 139.7 mm (which is the same as 5.5 inches).
