Anyone else have any problems with the electronic brake booster on their TRD offroads or Pros? As far as I can tell, the booster "cycles" about every three brake applications which is weird but I guess considered "normal". It just makes the braking force a really inconsistent, especially at low speeds... really wish I could just have a normal vacuum booster instead and get rid of all the useless Offroad gimmicky stuff.

The other day I was slowing down on an off-ramp and all the sudden had no brakes, or at least no power brakes for maybe 30 feet and then all of the sudden power assist came back and slammed HARD on the brakes. If there would have been a car at the stop sign I would have plowed into them...kind of scary.
pavement was dry, No ABS light, no codes, nothing, everything has been normal since then.
Just curious if anyone else has had a shit their pants moment like this.

I haven't had that specific issue, but I also hate these brakes. Upgrading the pads and rotors finally got them to have decent bite and feel, but I would also prefer a standard brake system over the offroad electronic crap.

Sounds like you have some kind of problem with your system. Could be as simple as dirty ABS sensors, or more serious like a failing part of the ABS.

There's no TSBs for it that I know of and until I can get it to consistently fuck up I doubt I'll have any luck getting it looked at. I'll just have to drive reeeeeaal careful.

I have no problems, but I certainly don’t like the feel. I’d much rather have a typical vacuum booster. Sounds like you need yours looked at though, as that behavior is not normal.

    All is good for me.

I don’t know anything about this cycling you speak of nor have I noticed any inconsistency in braking. You might have a serious issue that needs to be looked into. A brake system failure is not cool.

ATRAC/MTS is not gimmicky. You probably just haven’t driven in a situation where it’s needed. Try driving over something that causes a wheel to leave the ground or up an icey incline. If you never do these sorts of things, the off-road might not be your cup of tea.

No one said anything about a tsb. If you mash on the stop pedal and theres no stop there is an issue

Yes, I had a few instances with the electronic booster on my 2017 when it was new. I didn't drive it much during the first 5 years of ownership, so I wonder if it had to do with sitting for extended periods. It worked itself out though.

Agree that the stock pads don't stop the greatest. Especially in 100+ degree heat.

I know it's an issue, which is why I posted about it.... but without this being a known problem, inability to replicate it, no codes etc. taking it in is a waste of time IMO.
I have yet to get in a situation that 4LO and the locker hasn't gotten me out of, 3 wheels and all....that said I don't drive on much ice so maybe that's where it would come in handy. To each their own...I just wish mine didn't have it haha

That makes me wonder because I hardly ever drive this truck, like maybe 1-2K a year and usually that's all in one or two trips.

I did about 10k or so miles in the first 5 years. Gotta be something to do with the truck sitting for extended periods.

So are you saying that you drive around in 4lo with MTS disabled? If so, I think you are doing it backwards. I leave ATRAC enabled 100% of the time and only use the locker in special situations. In most situations the rear locker doesn’t add anything above and beyond the rear locker. ATRAC has been much more valuable to me than the rear locker.

Also, if you have the rear locker engaged and ATRAC/MTS disabled, you have an open diff in front and the front has 60% of your potential traction on level ground assuming stock weight distribution.

Are you perhaps confusing crawl control with ATRAC/MTS?

Yeah I leave A-trac off and use the locker if I need it, honestly I've never tried A-trac, maybe I'll give it a whirl next time things are a little dicey. I don't have crawl control.

I’ve found no reason to disable it. It’s nearly as good as front and rear lockers and it doesn’t interfere with steering. You can turn it on and forget about it.

Can't hurt to try it since it's there. I still would rather have a dumb old vacuum booster and two lockers lol:D
