Why are there 2 fuses in a 3rd Gen Tacoma?

    There is a 20 Amp and a 30 amp fuse for the audio system. Why?

    edit: well now out of curiosity I went to go look at own 2021 that does not have JBL/amp. Sure enough, same 20A and 30A fuses. Since I don’t have the diagrams, I don’t know what they do. So you can disregard my irrelevant info from 2016, but I’ll leave it up.



    Something probably changed between the 2016 FSM I have, and the 2022, but early on there were 2 20A fuses. One for the head unit, one for the amp if equipped. Only 1 20A fuse if not equipped with the amp from the premium package.

    My guess is the 2022 is the same except maybe when they revamped the head units in 2020 and added CarPlay, they may have bumped one of them up to 30A. Not sure which one or why.

    Thanks. I asked before I looked in the fuse box. I have a pretty basic radio without the separate amp and do not, in fact have the second fuse.

    I made an edit, after looking at my own I’m not sure why there are two. Unfortunately the info I have from 2016 is not quite as relevant as I thought. It probably changed in 2020 and I don’t have those FSMs.

    Well, I think your info is spot on anyway. The second diagram and my own fuse box bear out the external amp info. Now my only question is whether the wiring harness has the wires and whether I can use that circuit to install something of my own.
