I had my Tacoma tuned and let me tell you, it’s very impressive. Glad I did it as shifting a smoother and acceleration seems much better. It’s worth the money. I got the lite/mild update today from the OTT guy (Cody from Sioux Falls) in Rapid City. He explained everything and gave me the right tune. It’s like taking a new truck on a test drive! Not sure about mpg changes, but honestly don’t expect it will change much. And, a mpg here or there doesn’t matter to me. I now see and feel what I’ve been missing.

For those who have the OTT tune, has there been any cons you've noticed after install? I've narrowed down my choice to the OTT tune, but all the videos I've seen online talk about initial reaction and nothing really long term. I know the main pro's are better throttle response, reduced gear hunting and better low end torque. I also have a lift and bigger tires, so it'll help remap the shifting to compliment how my truck sits. Other than those pro's mentioned, have you noticed any MPG gains when driving conservatively? I've heard that the pedal is a bit touchy on mild, so I was wondering if lite would suit me better. I'm new to the forum and also mods on a Tacoma so any information given is appreciated!

i have no affiliation with the tuners:

ive had three tunes in my truck. OTT is the latest and by far has made me the happiest. ( i havent driven with the newest kdmax so i cant comment on that tune.) There are no cons only pros. Better power. Gear hunting is no longer. Better gas mileage. It's worth every bit of effort to tune your truck. It's as if my truck as come to life.

OTT tune has smooth acceleration. Much smoother and more natural feeling compared to some other tunes.

Tuning is the first thing i talk to other Tacoma owners about when we get to chatting about our rigs. I don't know anything about the voided warranty discussion- ive brought my truck in for service a few times with the tune and havent had any issues. I understand the common hesitation about getting your truck tuned but id encourage anyone who is interested in it, to be like NIKE and just do it. When you do, the only question you'll ask yourself is: "Why did I wait so long?"

I am also of the mindset that factory doesn't necessarily know best. All of my cars, trucks and motorcycles are custom and perform much better than they did off the show room floor.

I’m confused. You seem to also sell a lot of warranty voiding things as well.

We do, and we will advise the same thing when selling those as well. Different circumstance when something is brand new under warranty and past the 36k mile mark. We wont stop you, but also dont flat out recommend voiding important warranty components right out the gate. Wheels, Tires, Suspension, Lighting.... your voiding individual warranties of those components. Tuners, Intercoolers, programming and internal components (gears and other items) we will make sure you understand what youre voiding up front.

Weird, I just clicked on several tuning products from Cobb and others on your site and don’t see any information warning customers about their OEM warranty.

I waited for my extended warranty to expire before installing the OTT tune but now that I look back, I should’ve done it much sooner. It’s been great.

Im just giving my $0.02 that you should wait for the warranty to expire.

If you dont want to or want to void it sooner thats fine, but most dont understand the coverage of warranty or insurance policies in cases of modifying vehicles, im just simply weighing things to consider is all.

We have customers with paper plates doing frame cut bumpers, mid travel kits and installing roll cages, not everyones on the same playing field for mods and im simply saying that a pedal commander being a plug and play throttle sensitivity increaser will not void a powertrain warranty whereas an OTT tune will(all tunes for that matter). I have nothing against the OTT tune and we have plenty of customers running it with amazing reviews of it. As with all things, a defective part can happen to any vehicle, a bad manifold gasket, bad O ring or seal are all common failures and easily covered parts from Toyota that now wont be once a tune is discovered. Again if you understand this and accept that, do it as soon as you want.

Tunes can be removed at the press of a button. Easier than removing a Pedal Commander.

My truck is on the oem tune atm but I plan on going with OTT in the future. Currently as it is, my truck almost never shifts into 6th even when I had stock tires (currently on 255/85r16 Wildpeak MT01 that weighs fucking 60lbs per) and stays in 5th gear unless I'm doing over 80 on the freeway. I almost never go over 75 so I'm never in 6th. Do any of these tunes make the transmission cruise in 6th on the freeway when going under 80 mph?

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
I've yet to hear that a dealer figured out someone was tuned. Even if they do, they have to prove that the tune was responsible for said warranty work. Same goes for any mod you do.

You actually gain MPG with the tune with all things being equal and higher octane fuel. The truck has a bit more power and less tendency to downshift. OTT tune is fantastic, I tuned my 23 at about 3k mile and have been loving it since. The fact that pretty much everyone raves about the driving quality difference is something to consider. Much better than stock and worth every penny.

Yes, I can stay in 6th much longer. Even climbing hills. I’m stock tires / wheel setup. 32’s / Trail Edition. I also run high octane fuel for maximum timing. This absolutely makes a difference.

Do you have to use premium fuel with the OTT tune?

I have the OTT tune, and I’ve not purchased anything but good ole 87 Octane. My truck runs better than it did before tune. Some folks here have decided to run higher Octane stating a better run. I think it’s great that it works good on regular. But I’m sure some of these tune guys will chime in with their technical opinions. Got to love the forums!

Thx, that’s good to hear. Our fuel prices aren’t as bad as California, but darn close.

Reading how much people are enjoying the OTT tune almost has me thinking about giving tuning another chance after my awful experience with purchasing OV tune when 2.0 was coming out….. almost. But I’ve already put $1300 into the OVtune bs years ago(Canadian all in price) and got no driveability improvements whatsoever, and poor service/dishonesty so it’s hard to justify. Any way someone could “sample” OTT tune? There are no tuners near me as I live in a nothing city in Ontario. Hard to bite the bullet and go through with this again but 4 years of driving the stock tune while my tactrix and OV stuff sit idle is bugging me lately
