Here is a Softopper “tent” that lets you fold down the tailgate and sleep comfortably. It velcros to the flap on the window flap so it’s easy to install/remove Without all the fuss like most topper tents. I sewed it up for a friend last night so he hasn’t had a chance to take it out for its maiden voyage. Let me know what you think! Any ideas on how to improve it?

Looks good! I've had some experience with both DAC and Toppertent extensions. What's the access like getting in and out? Do you just lift it up like a curtain? Any way that it fastens to the tailgate in case of winds?

He wanted something simple, so you just lift it like a curtain. I did add some webbing loops along the bottom so you can add tie downs for windy nights.
It would be easy enough to sew in magnets or even just Velcro if you add the Softopper Velcro strip to your tailgate.

Softopper has these on their website, but are much bulkier. I’d rather just set up a ground tent than one of these.

Thanks! Sometimes the simple solution is the right path. I usually ground tent with the family and sleep in the bed on solo adventures. It’s nice to be able to set up or pack up in 30 seconds!

The main panel is 18oz PVC coated polyester and the side panels are 1000 denier Cordura so it should last a long time and keep the weather out.

Would you make me a black one? I'm serious...I don't need netting or zippers...use it like a bivi sack.

Hey! They are $170 and shipping is usually $30, you just pay the actual shipping charge from Fed Ex or USPS.

I’m sewing up a batch this week and will let you know when they are ready.

I like the concept. I'm thinking the ultra deluxe model needs a pair of tent poles to reinforce against the occasional sideways rain.

And if you want to get real fancy, maybe a zipper flap for the ol' midnight gotta-pee-now egress.

Good idea on the zipper. It would be easy enough to add a water proof zipper with an extra flap.

There are extra tie down on the inside that match up with stock D rings, and I can always add more for folks with bed stiffeners.

That’s only an option for the long bed!

Came up with an idea for flaps to allow for a better fit with the tailgate cables on a Tundra. I’ll start including these on all of them so they fit better. IMG_6452.jpg
