I enjoy my Sport. I had a 2020 AC 2.7 basic bare bones 4×4 & stopped into the dealership to get some oil filters & other supplies & the salesman showed me the Sport. It had far more upgrades & it had a back seat I could fit my daughter & 6y/o granddaughter VS front seat in AC. I could take her & my daughter places safely. I honestly could care less about the hood scoop. Hated it at first. It took awhile for it to grow on me. But the 3.5 has been phenomenal upgrade to the mighty 2.7 I loved. I do a lot of highway driving & it makes life so much easier on i95. No more shifting when I hit lite grades on i95 over the 2.7 & I get vgood mpg @ 60mph. Been a wonderful truck.. The biggest reason I bought it is BEFORE the 4th Gen. I'm not dogging the 4th Gen at all. As far as Off Road. I like those as well. I do a lot of gravel roads & lite off road to get to fishing/hunting spots but the Sport does all that & then some for me.

Zero regerts with my Sport. Most of the OR differences would never get used. The Sport is better on the road….where I’m at 99.5% of the time.

I would've rather bought a Sport over my OR now that I've had mine for two years. Love what I have but I've never used the locker other then one time just to see what it does. Hardly even use the 4x4 as the snow on the northeast coast has been non existent these last two winters. The truck is too pretty and new for me to use on the salty beach yet. My Wrangler is my $2 dollar whore that I run in the salt. So for what I needed in hindsight and the superior looks of the Sport that's what I should have bought. A couple thousand cheaper too.

I wanted an MT. That was my only 'must have' criteria. Ended up with an OR but would have been equally happy with a Sport.

    That's an honest assessment...thank you.

I knew right off the bat, I was going to be mostly street driving.

At the time that I got my short box OR I would have settled for just about any model on the lot that met my criteria:

Length, width and height to fit in my apt building parkade parking space.
    4wd (use it every winter)
    Towing capacity at least 5k
    Rear seating
    AT or MT

In hindsight, I think I was upsold but what did I know? When I first laid eyes on that OR model (AT), it met all my requirements, plus it looked good (wife liked it too). At the time, I wasn’t looking for a deal, just a truck. No regrets.

Buy the truck you truly want it you can afford it, back in 09 I went with a cheap base 4cyl, but really wanted a 4x4 OR. I just started a new job and had the money to cover it but let my parents talk me into something I could pay off immediately. Finally got the Tacoma I wanted in 2020. Don’t have any of the same regrets I had with my 09.

if the sport is what you want, get a sport. If not get the OR.

I’ve had both. Sometimes I miss my white trd OR because I loved the white on black contrast. But, as far as function my LB sport has been my favorite truck so far.

If you ask others for advice, you probably already know what you really want, and are seeking affirmation in case you compromise. So, go with the one that offers no regrets as long as it fits your budget.

Don’t sleep on the OR’s bilsteins for on-road comfort. They’re super-soft, love the ride. Keep in mind that even if you never use the off-road goodies, because these trucks never die, someone after you will, and resale will reflect that.

There's no getting around it, the Sport is a compromise in capability and functionality. It's kind of like carrying a weapon; I'd rather have it and never need it versus ..... well you know the rest.

For those of us who virtually never venture off pavement, the Off Road is the compromise in capability and functionality. I use my Sport for towing, schlepping around lots of stuff, and the 4x4 capabilities for slogging through the occasional New Hampshire winter snow.

Sounds like you use yours exactly how I use my trd sport. Never touched my off-road features in 2.5 years so figured for me the sport was the way to go

Sport, OR, or Pro? They all offer a manual transmission, thus they are identical.

The TRD Pro manual transmission most likely had to order. My 2023 TRD OffRoad with manual transmission, I was lucky, my Toyota dealer happen to get 3 in stock. I grabbed one of them.:D

Maybe with the Double Cab & shortbed they are...
Toyota forced me into a Sport because I wanted an Access Cab.

Why forced? They could not order access cab for you?
