I have a 2023 TRD Sport with 2K miles. I crawled under the truck and it seems like a high amount of corrosion. Haven’t driven in snow/ice. Is this normal?

I don’t. Ocean is 75 miles and a mountain range away.

Pretty typical , even new trucks on the lot get surface rust on those areas . If you are feeling ambitious , hit the areas with a scotch brite pad and hit them with some semi gloss engine paint from the auto parts store , then fluid film in the fall , or do nothing and still probably be ok for many years …

Very normal, buy a few cans of fluid film and hit those spots every so often and it will keep that area looking new.

I’m guessing you live in Kitsap county? Does Washington use salt on its roads? Spring thaw and light rains may leave brine on the road you picked up. But that would leave white film on the painted parts. My 2017 desert truck doesn’t have much of that, but really, it’s not a big deal.

Thanks for the info. They use salt brine/sodium chloride. The reason for the question is I previously owned a Tacoma and used it in Florida, Alaska and WA state and didn’t have any corrosion. Guess that vehicle was the outlier.

    lol.

that's barely anything. let us know when the truck looks like this. in the midwest, this still counts as 'minimal rust'.

Those are all, with the exception of the diff mount brackets, exposed steel from the factory. A little fluid film or rust proofing of your choice and it’ll fade away.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
    Yes, it's normal.
The following items commonly "flash" rust - mostly a surface phenomena:
    - Uncoated machined steel surfaces
    - Forged steel parts
    - Welds
Look under any vehicle and you'll find the same.
The only way to prevent this is by painting/coating the parts OR keep them in a hermetically sealed environment with no moisture and no oxygen.
For the most part, it's harmless.

It is yes. My brand new 25 mile Tacoma that only sat in dealership for like 2 months had same rust , no kidding. I did sandpaper it and then did fluid film coating. I would advise you to do same, the bright rust like that means its surface rust, sandpaper will take care of it, just make sure you coat it after.

If you don't have time or don't want to do it, take it to body shop and they will do it, truck is brand new so they wont charge too much. Just make sure to say you want oil based under coating, woolwax, fluid film. NO RUBBERIZED coating, make sure you say it.
