Hi Everyone, this is my first post here. I bought a 2023 Tacoma TRD Off Road about a year ago. When I bought it, the engine definitely made noise comparable to other Tacomas with what is described as "Taco Tick".

    A bit of background.

I had the Engine oil changed at 1k. I changed it myself at 6k (when I did I noticed they filled it a little past the full mark). When I changed it at 6k, I filled it halfway between the marks (checked after running it and letting it sit for about 10 minutes).

I just had my 10k service at 9500 miles which included an oil change. Whats weird is the engine is significantly quieter now. I can barely hear the ticking. The oil level is right at the full mark.

My question: is there anything they could have done to reduce the Ticking noise, and did I underfill it by filling it halfway (drove it for about 3500 miles like that)? Does it want to be right at the full mark? Also, when I brought it in, they said they needed about 3 hours with it which I thought was weird for just a 10k service. I have a 1980 CJ Jeep that I've been changing the oil myself for years and have never over-thunk it.

    Thanks in advance.

If you’re between the high/low hash marks you’re good.

Probably quieter now that it’s broken in, or maybe it likes whatever oil they used this time around.

The tick is normal, most everyone hears it. It adds character to the Tacoma breed.

Yeah fer sure, it doesn’t really bother me. I’m just wondering if anyone has had any experience with the noise being significantly reduced like mine did.

Never noticed a tick with my 4 banger Taco. But my daily driver is a '97 Honda Civic and those motors tick louder than most.

My tick has always been pretty loud. It's never changed volume either. Not worried about it.

My Taco Tick is so loud that my neighbor (a mechanic) thought I had done a diesel swap the first time he heard it, lol.

I’m at 60K miles and it still ticks like its brand new

I would guess it maybe just hasn’t idled as much since you had the maintenance done? Or maybe something changed it, I’m not an expert but I know that’s just how the V6 Atkinson is designed so I doubt anything maintence wise would change the tick-y ness.

Indeed. Just got some for my latest oil change. FCP Euro had a great price.

I've been using this oil for a couple years in my truck and my wife's Mazda. Mazda OEM oil actually has molybdenum which is why I first started using it then started using it in my truck. I haven't noticed that noise in a long time, come to think of it. How much is FCP Euro getting for a 5L? Amazon is about $50 now
