De-tuned SR fuel efficiency

    According to Toyota's website, the de-tuned SR has the exact same MPG as the higher output engine on the upper trims.

    Does this make sense? Or will the real world numbere likely have a separation?

    I'm far from an expert, but it sure seems like the same engine tuned to put out 50 less HP and 75 less lb/ft should use less fuel, no?

    ^Same fuel economy numbers make sense because the engines are never going at full throttle during the EPA test cycle.

    Yes, it makes sense. It's the same exact engine. It has just been detuned to deliver less max HP. You aren't using max power at any point in normal driving, so it delivers the same MPG.
