Hi all, we’re headed to Alaska in 3 weeks and I’ve done everything I can think of (within budget) to our 2009 Doublecab to help it be as comfortable as possible. I’m realizing in the 11th hour that I am having trouble sitting comfortably in the seat for longer than about 2.5 hours. I’ve tried the seat jackers (both with and without the back risers). I’ve also tried a Purple seat cushion and neither has worked, even a little bit. Could it be as simple as a worn out cushion? It’s got nearly 175k miles on it. Any advice/ideas for fixes welcome.

It's just not a very comfortable vehicle for extended periods of time..... Lots of people dislike the seating position and seat in this vehicle. 2.5 hours sounds like a good mark to refuel and stretch the legs anyway.

You haven't really said what's bothering you. Lower back? Legs?

I have a trd sport with bucket seats and have driven 13 hours without issue. I'm also 48 so I don't have a young man's body. Haha. Maybe try the local upholstery shop to have them remake the seats. If it's out of your price range, check out local salvage yards for a wrecked TRD sport. Lots of areas also have a "pick and pull" where you can go get parts yourself.

They are the original bucket seats and I am also the original/only owner. This is definitely a new problem; we’ve been on some super long trips in it in the past and I have never had an issue. . . but I also just turned 40. Is this how it starts?! Haha!

The pain/ache is in the crease between my butt and back of my leg. I’ve played around with the pitch of the back of the seat also; but no joy yet. I am a fit and relatively healthy person without many aches, which is what’s got me thinking it’s a truck thing (as opposed to a me thing).

I’ll definitely call around to some upholstery shops to get an idea about cushion replacement and I like the pick-and-pull, too.

I think back of leg pain is from leg strain. A seat cushion like the purple one you tried would be better for a spine/back pain. I know you tried seat jackers. When you had them in, did your legs rest comfortably at the edge or were they still a little elevated? I would think a good upholstery shop would be able to customize the seat to your needs.

I bet you could test drive a 2nd gen TRD at a dealer to see if you like the TRD seats.
