Feeling overwhelmed with the options out there but I'm wanting to hook up two cameras for front/rear of my truck while parking at boat ramps, trailheads, etc., which means I likely would not have wifi or strong cell signal. I found a few options but they rely on internal storage and/or wifi, which would not do me any good if the thief steals the cameras before I'm back to the truck.

One would be mounted by the rearview mirror and the other I would mount to either my third brake light or inside the rear window of the leer cap on the back of the truck. I would not need to have the cameras on or in use except when parked at trailheads (I have rings cameras where I park at my house). I also only drive my truck a few days a week, usually just for recreation.

Ideally, I would want cameras that back up to a remote storage somewhere that I'd conceal and/or mount within a steel box. An app that notifies me would also be beneficial should my truck be in range of a signal and detect something. I would likely not be able to get back to my truck any quicker if I'm on the river but after having someone try to break in this weekend while at a ramp, I would at least have had the chance to catch footage of the perp or call the cops while it was happening.

Just had my sons HVAC van broke into (just brfote dawn). Wiped out 2k worth of tools. Our home cameras and neighbors got it, Got the van too. Even though we got all of that the van driver and the 2 dirt bags werent clearly ID'd. Dead end. I've found a noisey alarm the most effective. Footage is a nice a backup but seems makes little differance to the law. Times they are a changin'.

That sucks to hear. I'm admittedly a bit torn on whether to take this approach of mounting cameras to try and catch someone, since it would likely be retroactively and the damage is already done, vs just leaving my truck empty if I know I'll be in a public spot and just leave the cap unlocked to prevent them busting out the windows. Cab will still be locked because I don't want to invite someone to rifle around in there.

In doing some research today, this is the option I'm leaning towards, just a bit expensive: https://www.blackboxmycar.com/products/blackvue-dr970x-2ch-box-plus-4k-uhd-cloud-dash-cam

I have the Viofo a129 combo and am happy with it. Short money, around $200. It backs up on the app as well to your phone or tablet, so even if someone gets in and rips out the cam you'll still have a bit of footage.

Does it back up via wifi or is there an option for cell? I think I looked at this one earlier and really liked it at the price point but I'm concerned that if it isn't uploaded to the cloud or saved somewhere secure, the thief could just rip out the camera with SD card before I'm back to the truck.
