I've got a nice small 12v winch spooled with Dyneema.

But what on a 3rd gen Taco bed can one pull against?

It's certainly not a big load , bikes on wheels , up a ramp.

I'm thinking, mount the winch to a 2X8 that fits the bed side notches, then strap the 2X to the bed front tie down loops. This is a "once in a long while" need, so I'm not looking for a welded cage. ;-)

I did a search of the forums with string "bed winch mount" But didn't get much in return.

There’s no magic trick. It helps to have friends, or back the truck into a ditch. U-haul bike trailer is cheap, too.

Don’t think the composite bed is really strong enough to mount even a come along winch but I’ve been wrong before

Yep! That's why I'm looking for ideas! Friends with trailers are the very best, but not always available.

I need to get my trailer back. Loaning out the utility trailer is a constant strain ;-)

Could you bolt in a steel plate with attachment points, using the bed bolts? Did this on a 2G tacoma for winching light loads towards front.

This would be my suggestion I don't see why it wouldn't work. Only downside is it wouldn't be easy to remove.

I used google machine not TW search function, it’s a weird loop though because then most top google results are from TW :anonymous:

Scrubbed some tires, and knocked a dent out.
Thats def cool. But one of the first things I think of when I see that picture is that the truck needs a headache rack. Im guessing that winch install would preclude most headache racks because of the mounting?
