Pulled the drain plug and only 2.1 quarts came out. All the guys on YouTube are getting around 3 quarts. Is this normal?

    thanks.

most likely not. just fill until it until comes out the overflow then run it until up to temp then let it cool down for about 15 minutes then open the overflow and let whatever is to high come out. this is what i would do, getting it down to the teaspoon correct i don't buy into that, IMO

follow the CORRECT procedure on how to fill and check the fluid. Over fill after your drain, to make the process easier. The truck needs to be running, at a certain temp, open the check plug (make sure you are opening the CORRECT PLUG), let drain until slight stream is coming out, while motor is running, then reinstall check plug, tighten all 3 plugs (fill, drain, check) after to make sure they are tight/to spec. Watch this video, learn from his mistake about under filling. Ski

Going through the process of all the blinking lights on the dash is a nightmare. I did this and I had to do it two or three times to get it right. Next time I will definitely buy a temp gun.

I checked the temp gun against my scanner, and the temp gun was off almost 15°.

Yeah, but the temp Doesn’t have to be exact. It just has to be in a certain range as I recall. 102 to 120

The fluid expands as it gets hot.

Invest in an OBDII reader like a Scangauge.

Useful for many things, including projects like this.

Actually more useful than a lot of mods folks think nothing of spending $ on.

Damn, mine was off by less than 5, IIRC.
Plenty close enough, just reading a smidge low, of course.

I bought a Foxwell scanner. It wasn’t too expensive and can give you tons of data including trans temps.

I have a scanner, didn’t know it can do trans temp. Have to look into that.
