Hey guys just curious I just bought a 2006 tundra it’s the first gen of the tundra and wanted to use it as a tow rig, anyone have any experiences with this truck or advice I should know before committing to using it as a tow rig. Please let me know! I do not believe it’s a tow package but I do have the 4.7 v8

I have the same year, it tows as well as any other 1/2 ton truck. Nothing special.
I have towed a 2nd gen Tacoma on a double axle trailer and it handled it just fine, never felt nervous.
But it was mostly downhill out of the mountains, then flat grade back to town.

When you say "use it as a tow rig," what do you mean?

From personal experience, on sub 5000lb loads, it's going to handle it about as well as a 100 Series Land Cruiser. Which is what I'm using primarily for my single axle utility with about 3000 lbs.
1st Gen Tundra isn't going to pull, control or brake as well as a 2nd Gen Tundra, which is what I used for a long time towing much heavier loads. And a 2nd Gen Tundra isn't going to pull, control or brake heavy loads as well as a Super Duty and equivalents.

The 2UZ-FE in your Tundra is not an efficient engine. And it is not particularly powerful. But it will likely outlast you.

I had 2006 and it towed my 23 foot center console like a champ
