Well, for me it’s longevity as well as astetics. I live in a wooded area and have a big cedar sided home. The original reddish colored asphalt shingles looked good, I always loved the green metal over a cedar home look. Plus the metal will definitely outlast me. I’m 70 now.

When I lived in Galion, OH there were many older homes that were easily over 100 years old - that had steel roofs. Made me a believer in that sort of "permanent" covering. The old stuff was even thick enough to avoid denting in hail storms. I've heard that some of the newer materials aren't as resistant to impacts as you might want.

In Wyoming, the metal roofs (with correct pitch) would shed heavy snow. There were homes in Lander when we lived there - that had asphalt shingles of too shallow of a pitch and they would stack way too much snow. Shoveling them when facing a second storm was a serious effort. I had a neighbor who resorted to using an electric blower on his roof when we had 30" of wet stuff. He slipped and fell off (with no injury) - but it was hilarious to watch at the moment.

Welcome to the porch. Good group here. You’ll get use to retirement in no time. Just remember everyday is Saturday. Like your choice in music. 50’s, 60’s and early 70’s music, the best, keeps you young at heart and great memories.

A little something every chance we get.
Afternoon Porch folks! I know I'll be too lazy to post these in the morning, so.....
My big 2800 is now slated to get lifted outside for a combo power wash and steam clean of the top 2/3 I have stripped. Then we'll flop it over, so I can work over the "bottom".
So, today, I decided I'd clean up the "spare" R-1830, from "TAB". It will be going out for rebuild, so no 3M pad scrubbing, just oil wipe down, some detail wax, and wire treating. It was not "filthy", but it's been on "display" since January, and no one even looks at it. Only a couple before shots, because the shine is only in the missing oil covering.

I was very pleased that one of the Docents even took the time to show off the motor to some guests after I got done!

I didn't have anything to do after lunch, so I got after Colonel Buzzs' old 2006 headlights. I'll seal them next week. Pretty abused, but better now.

rotated tires changed oil threw out the old air freshener.
I had to get a new tire for my bicycle. Yesterdays trail riding resulted in a pinched tube along with a torn tire casing. I carry a pump and spare tube, but had to ride home with no rear brake due to the tube bulging out and hitting the brake arm every rotation. It's all good now, $40 for a new tire and a back up tube.
It was good to see the bike shop proprietors. He is my age and fights Parkinson's every day. He looks tired, but all power to him and his wife!

Not having the bicycle, meant I "had to" ride the motorcycle in to town. My corners don't fold up like they once did, but I sure feel comfortable on the VFR800fi!
Of course, getting onto the motorbike meant a ride, so that was excuse enough to buzz down to the "Steel Shed" in the next town down country and order a length of stock for some "rework" I have going on the Taco. (Forum content ;-)
Softopper AND Thule rack, either or , or both... Should come out OK, but there are lots of holes to drill and tap.

I just put a fire in the pit out on the back deck. Supper alfresco again tonight. Living in paradise has it's pleasures.

The years seem to slip by too quickly.

@Oldie2007, after a long siege an opposing force gave up, and when they reported to their CO they said, "No fair, there's two of them; he's got a rifle!"

    Welcome to the thread.

Enjoy today and I hope the doc does not find anything wrong. The process needs to be billed as the best sleep you will have in quite a while.

My family keeps me busy with repairs, modifications and additions but it is family and I enjoy helping out.

Good morning. After finishing everything I am headed to a meat market on the Eastern Shore. Need to pick up some chicken and a few steaks. We do not eat beef all that much but I do enjoy a quality steak every now and then. The ribs came out really well yesterday.
