I have leased both the 2nd gen and 3rg gen TRD sport trims. Just few days ago a car pulled out in front of me. Both my wife and I walked away bruised but alive. The truck wasn't as lucky. We Are looking at getting another tacoma but I don't know what option to get.
    What do you recommend?

First, glad you are okay. Second, sounds like insurance will cover a nice chunk to replace your truck and lost resale? If so, I'd drive a new 4th gen see if it that much more of a improvement.

I am still waiting on word if the insurance company will total the truck. But between the front end and all the airbags deploying it doesn't look good. I really liked that truck too.

For a 4th gen, definitely an Offroad. Unless you plan on hauling a bunch of stuff for work, etc. you’ll probably want the leaf spring version sr5.

Saw one the other day in a dealer, it’s leaf springs. All of the sub models to pre runner are leafs.

Only SR base models have the leaf springs. SR5 is coil

Extended cab SR5s and the TRD PreRunners have the leaf setup in the back. SR5s only get the coil setup on double cabs

I would go and test drive a 4th gen and see if you like it over the 3rd gen. Most dealers are more than willing to make deals on the 4th gen right now. If the 4th gen isn't your cup of tea, go for a 3rd gen again. I've owned both and I prefer the 4th gen in most categories personally but there seems to be a very negative view of the 4th gen from a lot of people on here and most all of that negativity is based on zero actual face time with a 4th gen

    Glad you were both ok.

So this is a lease? Curious how that will play into the whole situation, especially if it's totaled.

From the one pic I'd say they'll fix it. Then again we don't know the year, miles, current market of the truck and if the frame was tweaked. There are a lot of folks here who would say 'I hope they total it'. In your case I think I'd say I hope they fix it right, as long as that doesn't hose you in the lease return process.

Agreed, especially if it's another lease.

Or a lightly used at an appropriately lower price if buying. The used market is inflated because of the crazy new vehicle prices creating demand.

I would say it depends on what you are looking for or need. If the crash has you thinking about safety I would go with a 4th gen, it out performs the previous models. The Toyota builder should walk you through what is available on each trim level. If you have some follow up question feel free to ask, you may get an answer here.
