Dealers aren't exactly breaking down his door because he is so upside-down on his jeep that he can't quite secure the zero-down financing that he wants. Or so the online persona says.

Ever hear a story that is so against human self-preservation that you just have to sit and chew on it for a while?

The ANSWER TO YOUR QUESTION IS... you have no guarantee of finding the Toyota that you want. Toyota does not take orders for a specific trim. They manufacture what they think will sell and give each dealership an allotment based on their sales history. You need to work with a dealership and have them show you their allotment. Pick one of the trucks that isn't spoken for yet, and make a deposit to secure your place in line.

    i like this quote...

"The other thing is the net worth thing.. So if you finance a $65k car then you're in the hole for $65k and even if you have $100,000 saved up your net worth is still only $35k."

umm... no.. your net worth would still be 100k

Well, your net worth would technically be 100k + (car value - car loan debt), with the difference between that car's value and what's owed on it determining you're final net worth in this extremely simplistic example.

Reading the OP's old thread..he's actually unemployed as of last month yet lives in a ridiculously affordable area and still can't manage anything.

Wonder if this kid's a trust fund baby or something just making one bad decision after another.

He had me at $1200 per month as his minimum. Thats close to the combined payments I make on two cars AND including enough extra principal to pay one off after a single year of financing.

I've done dumb things with money. I still do dumb things with money. But, fuck, if I were this kid I'd ditch the gladiator, buy a used hatchback, and learn to enjoy my vacations from a ground tent.

Quickly on track to be in vehicle debt forever, at a minimum. Quite upside down on a rapidly depreciating, 2 year old vehicle, and planning to trade it on the most expensive midsize truck money can buy? Yeesh

This is why we need to teach our kids financial literacy.

OP, the most responsible way to buy a new Tacoma is to pay off your Jeep, then keep making the same monthly payment to yourself until you have enough to buy the new truck without financing for more than 36 months. This will also give Toyota time to work out the bugs that this brand new model will undoubtedly have.

You liked the Gladiator enough 2 years ago to go into heavy debt for it, surely it hasn't changed much since then, so it would be best for you to commit to that vehicle for the time being.
