So in my quest for a regular cab camper shell, I see a lot of info and photos that shells for the access cab / dclb will fit the bed of regular cabs but look kind of wonky due to the “angle” of the rear of the cabs. The regular cabs are much more straight at the rear of the cab.

it’s pretty pronounced when you see it. Here is one photo:

I found this shell, which appears to have zero curve to it but is on an early DCLB. It looks to match the cab here nicely. the sn checks out for a DCLB shell.

Did early 2nd gen dclb have a more “straight” rear cab than post-facelifts?

The same shit everyone else has.
    No.

    The cabs never changed.

Access cab and DCLB use the same shell.

Single cabs use a different shell.

So is the assumption here that Leer (and maybe others) changed their molds to include a curve at some point for the ac/dclb? Or maybe that some models of their shells have the curve, and other models do not?

in the first photo of an access cab/dclb shell, the top arch of the roof of the shell is clearly offset from the bed side against virtual vertical.

In the second photo, which is also an access cab/dclb leer shell, there is no such offset. In fact the bedside is further toward the cab than the roof of the shell, which is opposite of the first leer shell photo.

The shells in the two pictures are clearly different designs. Look at the shell's bottom window line near the front.

That’s exactly what is piquing my interest. In other threads on tw it has been stated that the 100xl and 100xq have the same molds, only the windows and window cutouts were different. The 100xq is the second picture with the curved window line on the bottom toward the cab.

It appears to me the mold is obviously different on that particular 100xq, even though the leer tag states it is for a DCLB. Which leads me to believe that there is at least one Leer cap mold/design out there that is an AC/DCLB catalog design that may in fact fit a regular cab.

I think i’m going to take a chance and make the drive to check it out.

One shell is for a boot and the other for a sliding window on the shell is my bet. My 03 had a boot and no sliding window.

I've heard that the 3rd gens even use the same cabs for DCLB/DCSB/ACLB as the 2nd gens, save for a few panels. Any know if there is any truth to this?

I sold my 100xl from my access cab to another member here with a regular cab and it fit good with no issues. It will work but the lines aren’t perfect.
