Going to be building a race motor for a 1450 truck and am new to these motors. Currently truck has a 22R w/ a billet precision turbo, but the motor is near the end of its service life, so we are going to switch to a 3RZ. Already purchased a motor, but am trying to figure out the best (most reliable) setup that will put down a consistent 500hp.

    My main questions are:

    1) Which head to use - 4 port or 8 port (currently have an 8 port). The head we have already has some mild porting, but we are weary of the way the injectors fire into a flat portion between the 2 ports. We will be using 1100cc custom intectors as we are running on E85. Considering closing up the factory injector location and running 8 - 750s?

    2) Good setup for the manifold to maintain a forward throttle body. I realize that the 3RZ is backwards from the 22r, but as long as the TB faces forward, intercooler piping is not an issue.

Any info is greatly appreciated as is recommendations to reliable parts suppliers and builders.

What do your manifolds run? Also, already have the 3RZ so gonna stick with that. Does anyone make rods for it?

What failed on your motor? The block we picked up already has the arp head studs and has Arias 8.5:1 pistons. Motor is already stripped so that we can inspect all the parts (gonna take the pistons to Arias this week for checks). Also removing the balance shafts.
