A number of bolts are already rusting around the wheelwells and undercarriage on my 2024 Tacoma. I got it in March. Makes me worried what it will look like after a full Iowa winter. Any advice on what to do about it?

J/k those shock studs always rust, just part of the game

Shock shafts and ball joint studs- they're machined or forged components and not going to get coated in anything therefore I'd expect the rust. Thats completely normal and a 3rd gen would do the same thing. Bet you look harder and you'll see rust on steering stops on LCAs, rust on brake rotors, diff mounting studs, U joints/flanges, and plenty of other small places under the truck. Any manufacturers vehicle would likely have similar spots in the same use conditions.

The rust cherry has been popped. A moderate descent into iron oxide nothingness. We all return to dust!

8 cans of fluid film, 1 tyvek suit, and 1 pair of rubber gloves. Old cardboard boxes on the ground, or park it in the yard. Spray everything but the hoses, belts, and exhaust underneath... Drink a beer knowing that your truck will look like new in spring time Iowa!

What about your brake rotors. Bet they have rust too.

And now that you've gone all fancy with rear discs, it's back there too!

First new vehicle? Untreated hardware will start rusting before the dealer even gets their hands on it and you'll find untreated hardware on every vehicle, not just Toyotas.

If this help, I've always had success using Rust-oleum Rust Reformer. Take off some of the rust with a small brass or wire brush, use a paper towel (or 2) -- push it through the rusty bolt and spray away without causing over spray. If it comes back, re-spray.
