Sup TW. Does anyone have experience with this? https://wilcooffroad.com/products/bed-rail-tire-carrier
I have my spare mounted in my bed laying flat and looking for a bit more bed space to carry gear and what not. Want a way to mount my tire vertically and sturdy if I want to maximize space.

My take: Location sucks for visibility, I would try the left rear near the tail gate if possible. My 2021 did not come with the front bed rail, like me you would probably have to source and install one.

You did not state what size spare tire you are currently running; I have a (~33") worn 255/85/16 in the stock location with no problems. I will sometime in the future have to come to some sort of realization as you are today. To run a same size spare as the road tires or one a size or two smaller in case of flats.

I don't have any experience with this, but this is where I plan to mount the spare on my 23 Tacoma and my 82 Pickup. I had not seen this model, but love it!

I think with that one you are able to mount it to the side rails if I’m not mistaken. But I don’t have the front bed rail either. I’m running a 315/75/16 so under the truck is not possible. I’m also thinking about making a small bed rack that holds the tire but the disadvantage of that is I won’t have much vertical storage space past the sides of the bed since I would want it low profile.

Seems like a quality option for sure. Only thing would be rear view mirror visibility would be gone

Agreed, but depending on your plans for the truck, you're going to lose the visibility at some point. So, I would consider a Wolfbox rear view mirror to get it back.

If you're worried about it around town, you could always have it lay in the bed on a daily basis and pop in the vertical apparatus whenever you need it. That's the nice thing about this product fitting into the bed rail system.

I have the Armordillo Chase Rack with the spare tire mount.

I love the look and for the most part, still gives me the majority use of my bed.

After thinking about it a bit, I would like to rescind my recommendation of using the rear of the left side rail for mounting. I think in the case of a frontal accident the rail might not remain attached to the bed. There are five M6 screws holding the rail in place.

Also tried a 31" tire in that location today in my long bed and there was barely enough room for it before the wheel well, so I do not think a 33" or 35" tire will be possible in that location. Next time I have one of my 33" tires off the vehicle I will try the fit.

This guy has a camper shell so the accident thing wouldn’t be a factor but his looks like it fits pretty nice in there and think it is a 35. Looks like it comes out a little further to clear the wheel wells though. Also his mount is from some company called spirt of 1876 or something like that so it’s a little different but generally the same concept

fun fact, i've never seen any camper shell stay on a truck in a hard impact. and in rollovers, they tend to blow apart like styrofoam cups in a mosh pit.
