Just joined this group and really hoping to get all the tips and tricks to keeping my 2016 Trd sport running in peak performance.

I bought it 3 years ago and haven’t done much but oil change, tires, brakes and replace these stupid Airlift suspension airbags twice!!! Today I ripped them out with my dads help…ended up needing new leaf springs bc of the faulty airbags ( or the previous owner did a lot of towing…not sure what caused my springs to “de-arch”).

Im just going to say it, I would never recommend the Airlift company for tacomas…I know they’re American but the washers and pieces as I was removing the airbags, were all plastic and cheap as shit. Not to mention I had to replace the parts twice and both times the bags ripped.

My next suspension mission is to get Sumo Springs. Any advice or reviews on them?

I live in Yosemite area and do quite a bit of off road…live on a dirt road and need this baby to hold up quit a while.

Does anyone else have a Warrior rack n their taco? I’m looking for a tent that works with the rack..right now I have a pro eagle jack and spare tire mounted to it but I’d like to add some camping gear and looking for a company that makes compatible products!

Just hit 120k and due for my big checkup. Where is the most importance place to start? Had a baby shortly ago and on a tight budget but want to be safe. I’m doing this on my own and just want honest feedback from some people who know their stuff! Probably only able to knock out one project at a time so start with the most important

Welcome to TW! I have no experience with Sumo springs but I’ve had Firestone Ride Rite airbags on my truck for about 6 years now with no issues.

    Welcome to TW!

Generally at 120k you'll want to do:
Oil change: Engine, transfer case, transmission (MT or AT), front&rear differentials, power steering, brake
    Spark plugs
    Engine & cabin air filters
    Tire rotation

In order of personal opinion of importance:
Engine oil change, tire rotation, spark plugs, engine air filter, rear differential, front differential, transfer case, transmission, brake, power steering, cabin air filter

None of them are hard but make sure to get the correct oil weights for everything. Toyota calls for their own special sauce for the TC iirc.

Welcome. Time you spend in the 3rd gen forum will be useful I'm sure.

This will get you started. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/3rd-gen-diy-maintenance-quick-reference.406712/

The bags had nothing to do with de-arched springs. New they are almost flat. Bags are a decent choice for occasional towing rather than having stiff springs that roughen the ride when the truck is unladen. Most folks here seem to use Firestone bags and Daystar cradles.

At 120k if it still has factory shocks, they are done. You might want to start considering options there. The Suspension forum is a good starting point. Just don't get overwhelmed with all the boy racers and overlanders.

A good vendor, like @memario1214 of hotshot offroad is a great idea to both help and supply

IMG_2985.jpg I was rear ended today..you wouldn’t know by looking at the truck though. The Honda slipped right under my bumper, minimal white scuffing, and hit my tow hitch right on the at-fault drivers radiator. Her hood looked like an accordion and front bumper is toast. I felt so bad for the old lady…

I just put new leaf springs n YESTERDAY and it raised the tail end of my Tacoma. Thank god for that!
Still…should I be worried about any drive like damage? I was at a stop and she accelerated as if the light had turned green. Not a high velocity accident. IMG_2983.jpg

Let a professional examine your truck for frame damage. Just in case.

Don't wait, as her insurance is on the hook

Welcome :hattip:I put a tow hitch on my truck in 2004 for that very reason and its served me well ever since. Stay proactive, and continue to exercise due diligence

I was rear-ended on I5, driving up to Seattle from OR. I'm in the same boat. 2 Other drivers were involved so I'm working with their insurance. I can tell from underneath that the hitch was tweaked, but doesn't look like the frame is involved (awaiting professional opinion.) My Tailgate and middle bumper cap didn't hold up as well as yours, however!
