    hi guys,
Firstly, I just wanted to give a huge shout out to this site. Having the amount of info on taco readily available is probably 40% of why I own one.

On to the issue, I have just completed my first Auto trans Full flush. I also dropped the pan and changed filter at this time. Everything went well except this last part of checking the fluid level. No matter what I do i cant enter temp check mode. I get all the initial lights flashing and go the the process as per Toyota service manual. p,n,d,n,d,n,d,n,p. Iv read a couple other forums on here having this problem, and the l only other thing i can think of is to build a actuall jumper. I dont really see why that should have any effect on it but its worth a shot.
Any other suggestions are much appreciated.

Also when changing the filter i put a shit load more magnets on the bottom of the pan. do you think the extra magnetism would have an negative effect on anything in the tranny? Perhaps on the many solenoids that are in there?

When you jump #4 and #13 and start the truck, do you see a bunch of warning lights come on? If you do, your shifting pattern is wrong, if you don't see some lights come on (iirc they stay on until you turn off the truck and disconnect your jumper wire) your jumper wire doesn't have a good connection.
It should go like this: http://youtu.be/vpGIBJPnJX4

Assuming you don't have a Prerunner, just follow the directions in that video. I had trouble, too, at first. What I found, with my truck, that if I took the shifter into 4, being from N to D to 4 all in one motion, three times, I'd get into the AT Temp every attempt. I still can't do it just using N to D, and so on. Side note: I don't have any tranny issues.

I had the same problem. The only way I could go into temp check mode was to shift between N and D quickly. If I paused like in the video it would not work.

I practiced getting into temp check mode last week. For me I watched the video while I completed the shifts to get the timing right. Every time I did it with the video I was successful, doing the shifts on my own timing I was not very accurate with correct shift timing pattern.

In the video in states that after the last n-d shift the at/temp light lights for 2 seconds, the once again lights up again in P for 2 seconds. I could never get the light to illuminate in P. I decided to just see what happened if I just waited and after 20 minutes the At/temp light illuminated, after about 40 minutes the light started flashing indicating it was above the temp check range. Hopefully that helps.

Assuming the magnets were flat and laying in the bottom of the pan puts them far enough away from the solenoids to cause any issues

I can't get this to work on my 07 4x4 no matter what. Gave up and jail broke an old iPhone to download the Torque app cuz I didn't wanna pay for a scangauge

Also that video above sucks because sticking loose wire strands in there doesn't make a good connection (either crimp on some terminals or just use a paper clip) and ten minutes idling until you're in the right range don't mean shit when you don't know the ambient temperature

Where did you find the PID for torque with our trucks?

I had the same problem with my 2012 v6 4x4 Tacoma with not being able to get into temp check mode after changing fluid. I did the quick shifting from N to D which seemed to work.
