I own 2006 2nd gen tacoma and my ignition key doesn't work for my door lock, nor do I have any extra keys that the truck came with. I am considering buying new door locks but can't find anything on the internet nor in the manuals that tell me how to do it.
Does anyone have the correct part number or procedure?

I think your ignition key will work on the door if you get a new key cut and programed.

I'm in the same boat with you. The only key I have is a copy, not an original. It works most of the time with a few wiggles....but yeah, it's at the end of its life. I have a good scan tool but I haven't messed with it for this issue. I was gonna get the dealership to cut me a new key, hopefully off the VIN #. If they tell me it's too much money to program I'll look up how to do it myself.

    Good Luck!

Okay thanks i'll look into doing that!

also (not sure if this is bad) I can take the key out of the ignition while driving, not sure if all tacomas can do this but I find it pretty useful, in the winter I will start mt truck close to the end of day at work then take the key out (while its running) then come back inside, work for a bit, then lock my tool box (tool box key is on my key ring) then jump in the taco and go home

its also a good party trick to take it out while on the highway.

AAA has locksmith service and they make car key as well. I haven’t use their service yet and hope to never need it. I don’t know if they make and program keys with a chip inside. Worth a call and see if it’s cheaper than the dealer if you have AAA service??

Replacing a door lock cylinder is very easy. It is only one torx screw if I remember correctly. Open the door, on the inside there is a plug remove plug and the screw under it releases the door lock and the corner of the handle. I think I paid 40 for a door lock cylinder and 2 keys.

You definitely need a new key cut, the should resolve your problem. If you can pull it out of the ignition when running your key is shot. Question, can you unlock/lock your doors with the key fob?
