When going into 4lo with rear locker engaged, my display blinks 4-low in yellow and beeps. What does this mean. 2020 TRD off road. Thanks

Are you engaging the rear locker before engaging 4lo?

No, I went to 4 low first. What is the correct way to engage? What does the beeping and flashing 4lo mean? Not engaged?

Not engaged. Don’t try the locker until it is.

If it’s flashing and beeping it’s not engaged in 4LO. Try slowing going forward or backward with little turns of the wheel to get everything aligned so it will lock in.

Stop the truck, put it in Neutral, then try the locker.

Every once in a while, I have to drive forward and turn the steering wheel left or right.
I don’t know? But evidently something has to lineup in there and it pops right in.
Of course, the 3rd Gen trucks works a little differently. But you might try it.

My understanding was you need to shift into neutral first when going to 4Lo. Then you want to move slowly for it to engage. I don't have a locker so can't say about that.

While I don't have 4wd, I'm pretty surprised the owners manual doesn't give instructions on this.

I mean they have like a bizillion pages on using the radio, and 4wd seems more important to me.

my gender and age prevent me from reading a manual or instructions.

as others mentioned, the flashing and beeping mean 4LO has not engaged.

so from 4H, i stop the truck, put the MT (yeh, i'm cool) in neutral, press the brake pedal, and switch to 4LO. i have to stay stopped, and sometimes i have to release the brake pedal and press it again for it to switch to 4LO. it's odd and clunky, but so are other things about this truck.

    "Error" is what it means.
Follow the instructions on engaging 4lo, and on engaging the locker.

The locker will not work without 4lo engaged. I leave locker switch off when not in 4lo.

I've always asked my Taco to do one of these things at a time. Because it just seemed like the reasonable thing to do...

And then 4lo first, then locker for the reason above.

It took me awhile to get use to putting it in 4L. You have to come to a complete stop put the trans in neutral pull on the emergency brake then switch to 4L then release the brake and put her in gear and the beeping should not be heard or flashing. If they do then you are not in 4L so you have to repeat the procedure again. I do not use 4L very often but when I do it works ok now that I know the procedures.

You need to be in 4Hi before going to Neutral to engage 4Low.

You can switch from 2wd to 4 hi while rolling in D. But switching to 4L You need to be stopped and in N.

I don't recall the parking brake being required. Neutral, turn switch wait for the thunk, put in drive or reverse and let it eat.

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
Quick question, OP: How often do you engage 4LO? It helps to do it at least quarterly to keep everything loose and moving, monthly would be better.

Silly question but are u in 4high when going into 4 low ? It needs to be in 4 high to go to 4low once u engage 4low it will blink then go solid once it is in 4low no need to roll forward to engage . That only needs to be done on 4high .

It’s not a requirement. It’s not stated anywhere. I’ve never use the parking brake to engage
