2006 V6 with 250k miles. Truck was fine all weekend, went to go somewhere this evening and couldn’t get it to start. It just cranks. Everything else electronic works fine, battery is good (tested it), terminals are clean and tight. Red security light turns off when I put the key into the ignition, so I don’t think it’s the chip in the key.

I browsed a couple threads with folks posting about similar issues. Checked fuses and swapped some relays around to test them. No dice.

I’m guessing fuel pump, but I’m open to suggestions or other things I should check first or verify. I can hear a faint whining when I turn the ignition but I can’t really tell where it’s coming from. Do fuel pumps normally just crap out instantly like that? No signs or indicators that it’s failing?

Is your security light next to the clock flashing with the key on?

How much gas do you have in the tank?

Some have found that their fuel level isn't very accurate from this very thing. I would add some gasoline a few gallons and try to crank it just to remove this as a possibility.

It’s low, about an eighth of a tank and my driveway is on a slight incline. But I’ve never had that kinda issue in the past with less than what it’s currently showing but who knows. I’ll give it a shot.

Connector and wiring look fine from what I can see, no signs of rodents anywhere else in the engine bay

Man! Sure enough, I put 2-3 gallons in it and it fired right up. False alarm, feel like a dummy. Didn’t think that’d be the issue with it showing an 8th of a tank left but, lesson learned. I appreciate the help

You wouldn't be the first, or last, on this forum to run out of gas with a 1/8 or more showing on the gauge.
1/4 of a tank is now your "E".

    Glad you got it.

Once my son borrowed my Isuzu truck and didn't tell me. I went to go to work one evening and shit it wouldn't start or fire. Took the wife's car. I spent most of the next day looking for why it wouldn't start I knew I had at least a half tank of gas when I parked it. After I didn't find anything after 4 hours I decided to look in the carb. when pumping the gas linkage and guess what nothing getting to the carb. The wife then says out the door "I meant to tell you our son borrowed the truck yesterday...... It might need some gas". Looked at the gauge and it read below Empty. He was lucky he wasn't here when I found out.

    It could be worse.
Back in high school, me and my buddy did a "tune up" on his dad's Ford Van.
We were broke and needed gas money. So he paid us $50 to change the plugs and wires.

No problem. We had it done in no time.
Then we filled up his 1993 Honda Civic and stayed out all night.
Didn't get home until almost day light, and the car was almost out of gas.

Not an hour after we feel asleep, his dad bust through the door.
Yelling that we "F.cked his truck up....blah blah...blah"
He told us to get out there and "fix it". He took the key to the Civic and was going to drive it to work.
Well, it was on empty. So he had to pay for gas TWICE......

The older I get the more I miss those days.......:D

BTW, it was the plug wires. We had a couple in the wrong place.
