I have a 2010 Tacoma Prerunner TRD Offroad with the JBL stereo system. The stock head unit was screwing up so I replaced it with a Sony touch screen unit (XAV-AX2300) a few years ago. I got all the adapter plugs from Crutchfield and the new head unit used the stock amp and speakers. This worked for several years then the Amp started acting up, balance would bounce from front to rear randomly.

I decided to by pass the JBL Amp so I got new speakers front & rear. My Sony output 55w to all 4 channels so I decided to not use a new Amp, you may opt for that option. Either way you need to find the wires to the speakers which are not labeled! I got a wiring chart from Crutchfield but it did not match what I have. I manually traced all 8 wires and here it where I found them on the plugs connecting to the Amp. There are 4 plugs going to the Amp, a blue 10 pin. white 12 pin a small 4 pin and a one with a bunch of small pins.

Here are the speaker wire output from the map that I was able to trace:

On the Blue 10 pin Plug:
    Right Rear - : White, pin #4
    Right Rear + : Red, pint #10
    Left Rear - : Yellow, Pin #9
    Left Rear + : Black, Pin #3

On the White 12 pin Plug:
    Right Front - : Blue, pin #3
Right Front + : Lt Green, pin #8
    Left Front - : Violet, pin #1
    Left Front + : Pink, pin #2

I ran a 9 wire cable from the head unit back to the Amp location and connected it to these speaker wires. Then at the head unit I connected them to the speaker output wires from the head unit. I left the connections that go to the PAC box also, that way the head unit drives the speakers and the JBL Amp still drives the Sub-woofer, on mine the Sub still worked fine. After replacing the speakers with some Kenwood 4 ohm 5.25" on all four doors everything sounds great. The sub output good base and I can control the speakers correctly from the head unit.

This requires a bunch of disassembly to get to the Amp and speakers but it is not hard. I followed steps I found here and on YouTube. Re-assembly is not bad, you need 4 new retaining plugs for the doors by the way! I hope this helps people since I could not find this wiring location anywhere!

PS - I sent this info to Crutchfield so maybe they can make an adapter or at least have the info for other users.

They (Crutchfield) said this does not work on the 2010 JBL setup. It looks similar though...

It’s listed on PAC’s website under the 2010 so I’m not sure. Crutchfield also says the kicker KS don’t fit but several members here have them (including myself) so I’m always weary to take their advice on some things

I agree, the 2nd Gen Tacomas span many years so you would think lots of people bypass the JBL Amp. I did not have an issue cutting the wires as I will never re-connect them. Much easier then trying to run new wires to the 4 doors!
