Well, this evening's wrenching did not go as planned at all. There was a sweet finish to it all though.

What I figured would be just a few hours to install the KW coilovers onto my Bimmer, turned into it being parked in the driveway.

After figuring out the camber plate adjustment, and getting thread lock where it needed to be, I got the driver side coil over mounted to the strut tower/chassis. Easy enough. Put thread lock on the lower mounting hardware. Loosely installed one lower bolt, then the other. Installed the top bolt, and then went to snug the bottom two bolts. (One top bolt holds the top of the steering knuckle, and two lower bolts, at the bottom of the strut. Triangulate and hold it together. )

One of the two bottom bolts never even got tight. The head and threads sheared flush, right on the knuckle. That wasn't even the worst part. I drilled a hole, and went about trying a bolt remover. It became one with the bolt...but let us not stop there. I tried to drill two small holes in the rest of the meat of the bolt. That broke off too. I guess I should have broken off something bigger, then just threaded it and made it a stud.... eesh.





So then I used a burr bit and chewed the middle away. No photo of that though. Came back with a drill bit slightly smaller that the threads. Cleaned it out. Except what was left in the threads put up a worthy fight, like the 300. They would not yield. Molon Labe. Lol.

I tried a thread chaser ever so carefully, and it just chewed up the outer most threads. Done. Helicoil kit ordered. The car waits until then.

The sweetness however, is that I was forced to drive the truck. Actually drive it and get some miles on it, since the Kelford intake camshafts install, with the VVT-I working.

Why in the Fawk did I wait sooooo long to have the camshafts installed, and have the VVT-I working with them!??!?! Hot damn this thing is fire!!! I am going to need to get an acceleration video!

 

Order the Helicoil 5546-12 kit. M12x1.75. Went through three 31/64" drill bits, getting the old material out. The edges kept chipping. Grr.



Once through the broken pieces and bolt, then it the drilling went easy. Tapped, inserted, and Bimmer is back together.



On the Taco the a/c had stopped blowing cold. Found this Schrader valve had the slightest leak.



Tested the system. Tightened it down, and added some refrigerant. This summer heat in traffic was killer.

 

no more glass radiator hose?

 

Been off for quite some time. Were the engine still N/A, I would. I feel that they restrict the flow, and I don't want that in the current configuration.

 

missed a lot in my hiatus from the forum. what caused the restriction? multiple fittings with the silicone to glass, tight radius bends?

 

It reduces the ID of the flow. As the sidewall of that tubing is around an 1/8" thick minimum. The radiator hose goes over the reduced down male end of the Killer Glass. So the OD of the radiator hose and the OD of the Killer Glass look flush.

 

I do still have them on the shelf though.
