I don't get it. We get snow out west, and we use salt on roads... but I've had 60 year old cars with solid frames and seen older ones that are solid.
Considering the amount of accumulated financial damage done back east by rotting vehicles, why is the public so unconcerned?

I knew a guy in NW Arkansas that made his living by hauling cars with good bodies and worn out engines north, and on the return he'd bring down good engines and transmissions from rotted out cars.

    Evening all:

I think in my area of Pa it comes down to having clear roads and being able to do the speed limit or more to get to where you're going right after a snowstorm is more important than having the vehicle rot away, at least it sure seems that way! :notsure:
In our area, first it was cinders, then salt, now brine and then salt, the brine is the most effective, but it seems to be what is causing the majority of the rust problem. If they put the brine down prior to a storm, and it is still wet when you drive on the "treated" road, the vehicle will be almost completely covered with a white film. :(

And, for the bike guys on here! :)

There is also a huge differences between a 50+ year old steel frame rail chassis, and uni-body construction.

one of many inane factoids I have learned at CAF, and already from browsing - how many P&W motors were made under license, especially by Ford! The base paint on my wreck looks a lot like Ford grey - but I have no evidence as yet!

The book is absolutely amazing when it comes to detail; I've referred to it many times over the 20 years since I bought it.
