i have the 2.7 and it seems to love 91 octane. i've tried 87, 89, 91, and 93 (over 5 tanks of each) and 91 is my favorite.

My stutter is most apparent when I accelerate after coming to a rolling stop, foot entirely off of the gas while coasting. Once I press the pedal, the truck jerks a bit. Harder press, harder jerk.

Thats pretty weird. i have nothing of the sort from my truck, and its bone stock 3.5 auto. I know others here that drive our water company fleet sr v6's, and they don't either. Maybe a regional thing?

I've always thought these trucks has a "yoyo" kind of thing in the lower gears. Tune smoothed it out a little.

I have a 2022 TRD Sport and experience the truck hesitate or “flutter” at approximately 40mph and then 50mph. I have 6,000 miles on the truck and will mention the issue to the dealership when I bring it in for the 10,000 mile service. I imagine they will tell me this is normal. It may be common, but it sure isn’t normal. I drove my 2015 Sport for almost 150,000 miles and never experienced this.

Was shopping this morning and spoke with an owner while coming out that just bought a new 2022 trd or parked next to me...i guess he waited till i came to my truck. He inquired a bunch of questions seeing i had a similar gen3 tacoma. One of the questions was about the transmission hunting, and the truck shaking at low rpm which he meant the shudder issue many here have mentioned. I take its common from what i'm now many report. At any rate, i told him to be patient, the hunting will get better, i had the same issue very early on. As far as this shudder, idk if its way more common to trd's, or what?...told him i had some when coasting to a stop when the truck was under 1200 miles, but it totally went away, and hasn't returned. Hopefully yours may do the same.

I filled with 93 Octane on first fill up and shudder disappeared. Cheap gas seemed to be my truck’s problem.

I only run 87, and the truck runs best on it, but i make sure its top tier. and not the el-cheapo stuff.

I think mine came with a full tank of the cheapest fuel the dealership could find.

MT here, just started having this issue two months ago when I moved to the west coast. Never noticed anything like it in the 50,000 miles before. It seems to be worst in third gear, between 30-40mph and ~2500rpm. Same symptoms as other guys are mentioning, like a yoyo in the driveline, when holding lightly on the throttle. Goes away if I let off the throttle or as soon as I step a little more.

Here's what I've tried so far to no avail:
    - ran a tank of 91
    - added Lucas fuel injector cleaner
    - new engine air filter
    - cleaned MAF sensor
    - cleaned throttle body
    - reset ECU and learned values through TS
    - checked torque on all suspension/driveshaft/center bearing bolts

Read through some similar but older threads on here and decided to buy a new set of spark plugs, since I'm coming up on 60k soon anyway, and grasping at straws makes me think it might help. Otherwise I'm not sure what else it could be...tune? Tuned with the Coyoza MT tune about a year ago. Trying to get my hands on the more aggressive version, tho I can't see how that might help. Fuel pump? had that replaced on recall about a year ago. Fuel injectors?

I have these exact symptoms in my 21 SR (auto tranny). 33k miles, OTT tune, CAI, true dual exhaust. Falken Wildpeak AT3 265/70/17. Running 89 octane for the past few full-ups.

I had the dealer flush and fill the trans fluid. It seemed to get better but it was probably just wishful thinking/placebo. Nothing really changed, in fact right now it seems to be worse than ever. Is it the heat? Nobody knows!!

Previously I would have described it as feeling a bit like flat spots in the tires- or some sort of minor chugging in the driveline. The tires show no signs of uneven wear. I had considered strained CVs from the lift (2-2.5”) as the cause.

Currently it’s best described as a somewhat significant fluctuation in air pressure underneath the entire truck. I might reinstall my factory intake just to see if it makes a difference. The whole air fluctuation feeling really makes me wonder… I just installed a tailgate spoiler.. am I upgrading myself into some twilight zone of tail-chasing diagnostics of a phantom problem?? Addressing all the cheaper/little things that could be causing the problem is starting to add up.

I’m getting the Eibach stage 2R suspension and Pro adjustable UCAs installed in a few weeks and will ask my shop if he can replace clamshell needle bearing with ECGC bushing
    https://eastcoastgearsupply.com/i-8536125-toyota-8-clamshell-bushing-eliminates-needle-bearing.html

But it’s probably the torque converter about to grenade. This is fine :bananadead:

This is inline with what I am feeling as well, but '16 with 135K. 1-75 mph I feel it, sometimes more pronounced then other times but always present in D, S-Mode, 2/4wd hi/low, even in neutral. I've ruled out everything but something specific to the TC or a bearing I cannot specifically identify in my own tests. Not getting any 3rd party help despite several attempts for it. That 'air pressure feeling' matches up though. I have the Eibach 2R and the problem existed before/after equally. I've done the body/trans/engine mounts just because of their age (again 135k here) and once I got in there I figured do it right. I've ruled out tires/rims/balance but just last week I started to hear a noise for the first time that sounds like the pass rear. Perhaps a bearing there is source or just a new issue I need to tend to. I will find out soon. I don't daily drive it and work out of the house so everything moves at glacial pace.

Two dealers have been no help and a recommended independent mechanic shop provided no leads. I'll get it but I am trying not to spend unneeded $. I did inspect the u-joints also but then I removed the rear driveshaft as a test....same feeling across the board. I am running out of DIY friendly wrenching ideas.
