Don’t post much, but kinda tired of trying to figure out this clunk in my front end. All signs point to steering column, but I’m not sure it’s the actual rag joint so not sure if replacing that will help. Done the searching and came to replacing that mid steering shaft, just not sure I want to spend the loot if that won’t fix it. Anyone else dealt with this? Everything in the front is new bushing wise. Body mounts have been replaced also.

I have had this issue on 2 other Toyotas which it was very common (Highlander and RAV4) and had it replaced. If you are feeling it in the column it is likely the cause. I have not seen Tacomas with this problem however. Get someone to turn the wheel while you look at the joint. You should see it pop. Also, if you grease it that helps but does not fix a worn joint.

Edit: after actually listening to your vid, this does not sound like a intermediate shaft issue.

it don’t feel it in the column, I do hear it at the firewall tho. The video is of me yanking on the fire when jacked up. I think I should probably do the test next with the steering wheel unlocked because I think that’s part of noise.
