Age 71 as of 5/13. Recently I have developed "Essential Tremors" in my dominant hand. (Right hand) A little embarrassing when eating, holding a fork or whatever. Just picked up a bracelet from Amazon with embedded magnets. Hope that has a good result. Or maybe I just need to drink less!?

I’ve bolted some stuff to it *lists cool stuff here*
Sorry to hear that, hopefully the bracelet helps. I’m refraining from any jokes but I’ll say it is with great difficulty lol

Propranolol and primidone can be helpful. They do carry some side effects to pay attention to. Alcohol will get it settled but at the expense of possibly making it worse when not present (yes, drink less). Deep brain stimulator for severe cases. I hope you talked to a medical provider since tremors don’t just start out of the blue on a 70yo. Resting tremors such as Parkinson’s can also be confused with action/essential tremors.

Physicians some what often misdiagnose Parkinson’s for essential tremors. You need to see a neurologist and be evaluated for Parkinson’s and other neurological diseases. Parkinson’s most often starts with a slight tremor in one hand. Is more common in older men than women. There is not a specific lab or imaging test that specifically diagnosis Parkinson’s. Have your physician refer you to a neurologist. The neurologist will take a detailed history and run some labs and other tests. They will likely do a special brain scan called a Da Tscan. Currently that is the gold standard test for diagnosing Parkinson’s. There are some other tests on the horizon but have not been approved yet. Get yourself checked out.

Had to remove my magnetic bracelet to get a CT scan. Now I can't get the damn thing to clasp! What the hell...the results of the CT Scan came back good. "Reassuring" was the quote from my Doctor.

Yes on the impact on eating, I already had a tendency to drop food on the front of my shirt. Now I have an "excuse". This condition impacts mainly the dominant hand. If I switch hands
when I eat it seems to be a lesser problem. At age 71 it could be worse!

That bracelet sounds interesting, hope it helps! As for drinking less, well, everything in moderation, right? Have you looked into any other remedies or treatments?

There is no labs or imaging that is definitive in diagnosing Parkinson’s. Tremors especially in older males should be investigated for Parkinson’s. A ct scan can diagnose and rule out various neurological impairments but not Parkinson’s. To diagnose Parkinson’s a physician needs to take a detailed history, perform certain labs and do a DaTScan. The DaTScan allows physicians to see detailed images of the brain dopamine system. Dopamine is key to diagnosing Parkinson’s. I’m not trying to second guess you or your physician. I would not be content with “reassuring “. Reassuring is physician speak for “not sure”. Patients have to advocate for their health and well being. Were it me I’d see a neurologist. Parkinson’s disease is not curable but caught early there is much you can do to slow it down and lessen the effects. Again I’m not trying to tell you what to do, just trying to help a fellow human.
