Hi guys, it looks like I am getting old and the camping pads may no longer be enough for me.

The gents that have back problems, what do you suggest?

    Thanks in advance

I’m a side sleeper and have never been comfortable in the woods until I got an exped megamat. Total game changer for ground or RTT camping. Just don’t expect to backpack with it. They also make one thicker that has more cushion and insulation if you winter camp.

What do you sleep on at home? If it's memory foam, use that while camping. Won't work well in the winter but that's another topic. I use a 12" thick air mattress that fits the bed. Doesn't necessarily help you but I'm sure they make one for a lexus

Double wide hammock. Old school ridge rest and sleeping bag on top. I’ve NEVER slept better in the woods.

Another vote for exped megamat. In the back of my truck I had been using a cot and an old thermarest. Sucked.

Ditched the cot and thermarest, got an Exped because a friend swore by them. Threw that on the bed floor, inflate to your liking, game changer. This is on top of a rubber bedmat.

It was so good that I waited for an REI sale and got two more to replace the so-called queen foam mattress in our small trailer. Rather than a queen, I got two singles that pit perfectly, and now we have custom inflation for each of use an no movement issues.

i second hammcoks. my Dream hammock Sparrow, Big agness echo park 0f and a amazoom special under quilt is such a joy to sleep in. (ended up swapping out the ENO tarp for a warbonnet superfly) it's great on the back but my issue with hammocking is that, down in Own-tario it's pretty easy but anywhere else far north means the trees are too thin to hold me up.

works well with my Tacoma and a backrack + a single tree/ post. but anything non-normal camping and it becomes a little more interesting to try and set up

I prefer a cabin with flush toilets, real beds, wifi, tv and a fully stocked kitchen. I don't tent camp anymore.

Amazon buy a tri-fold 4" thick mattress that folds up into a 12" thick carry bag comes in several widths under $100 for a good memory foam one.
You can add a cot to get off the ground too. These are for truck camping in bed or tent. I wouldn't be able to sleep in a hammock with my back ha ha.

a 4x6 piece of 4” memory foam is rolled up in my garage for fishing trips. Doesn’t take up much space but it ain’t for backpacking. Fits perfect in the back of the old Tahoe bed

I personally run (before switching to thermarest) MEC Reactor 6 (seems they updated it recently) . in dead of winter still kept my ass fairly warm (think it was -16c outside) but i daily it when i go car camping, but it's heavy. Had it for like 8 years at this point? 10/10 would buy again as its comfortable enough for a few nights

I switched to Thermarest neoxlite (great for ultralight and backpacking. but not more comfortable than my old reactor)
