It is really simple. Belt is about $60-80. Takes about 10-15 minutes. Use the time you would spend driving there to watch this video.
How to Replace Serpentine Belt Tacoma 3rd Gen - YouTube

I am almost afraid to know how much the dealership would charge.

I know you stated you don’t want to change the belt yourself, but this is another good video. This guy leaves the camera running in real time so you can see all the steps and how long it took.

I keep a spare under the back seat in case mine snaps.

Putting out an active fire is more exciting than preventing them.

Do you carry the socket and a ratchet long enough to get leverage on the tensioner?

A half an hour of labor is fair, more than likely you’ll get charged for an hour.

Yeah I keep a tool bag with a long handle open/box end wrench. I try to only use my bag when working on it and if i don’t have something in the bag I need then I know I need to add that tool to the bag.

I have a 19 with 79k and it doesn’t need a belt yet. People here have reported that they have gone over 100k and the belt still looked ok.

Toyota OE belts go an easy 8 year/100K miles with regular driving. I have owned multiple Toyotas and changed them at 100-125K and they do not have signs of wear/cracks etc. If you are abusing them off road with mud/dirt, results might be different. Idler pulleys/bearings typically go to 200K without any issue.

i do light off roading but my belt started squealing around 40-50k miles. Each time i clean it with a brush and water and that fixes it for another 10k miles

I replaced mine at 160'000kms but I had zero noises so I kept it. Just cracking perpendicular to the ribs may a crack every inch and half

10yr / 100k task for me unless you see evidence of it going bad (noisy idler bearing, cracks in the belt), can happen with contamination off-road.

The lower idler requires unbolting the oil cooler cover to clear the bolt, so the two oil seals under the oil cooler cover should be replaced too. Figure an hour labor plus cost of parts if you do belt and idler pulleys.

At 10yr / 100k there are a few other things which should be replaced, like thermostat and radiator hoses too. If you don't have a TRD Off Road or Pro, vacuum pump replacement has a 100k interval in the Toyota maintenance booklet - it requires tilting the engine forward for access.

I did mine at about 82K and I’m no mechanic. To be honest, I’m not even sure it needed to be done. Toyota recommended I consider replacing it at an oil change so I decided to do it myself. Just watched video and took my time. I used a quality OEM equal picked up at a local auto parts store. I think it’ll go another 80K. I’ve never in my entire life of driving vehicles (I’ve had a few… haha) had a belt snap. My experience is that they make noise first, there’s plenty of warning of a belt problem brewing.

^I see you like to live dangerously. :homer:

The vacuum pump has a book interval (as opposed to being on-condition) because it provides power assist for your brakes.

Not too bad. Used looking for sure but no glazing, threads showing, or any bad stuff. Paid $64 for the belt.
