I imagine so. The local Toyota dealership's off road affiliate company quoted me $3450 for parts and install. That includes the grill that comes with the kit which I do want. I'll probably get one more quote from a shop closer to my house. If Toyota isn't doing it, I don't see the point of using their preferred shop vs. another reputable shop.

I am installing a pro grille next week so wouldn’t need the entire package, so this was very helpful!

Did you have the dealer do the install? I have the parts listed in my cart ready to go from ToyotaPartsDeal, seemed to be the best way to get everything OEM in one place. The dealership quoted me $500 for the shocks and $280 for the u-bolts when I was there earlier today, I've got the whole suspension part of the kit(16 items) in the cart for ~$700 shipped lol.

Today, I drove a rough stretch of road in Indianapolis. It's paved, but worse then any dirt road in the rest of the state! The new shocks absorbed the bumps 50%+ better. The lift is perfect... like I've got a TRD Pro Access Cab.

A “TRD Pro Access Cab” is essentially what I wanted. Nice that I could start with an Off Road.

Anyone have an idea of how long it should take to install ONLY the suspension parts? I was just quoted for 7 hours(+Alignment) at the dealership, letting them know I’d have the grille and everything already done.

Also, how crucial is the TSS recalibration?

I was quoted at least 8 hours and they could not tell me for sure the exact timeframe. I thought the customer pay calculations were 7 hours or so when I looked it up. I was asked to leave it overnight if I went thru with it. I know a few mechanics from the dealership and they say it's time consuming to re-calibrate the system sometimes. The suspension and grill installs are pretty easy and straight forward. Either way, I decided against it for a few reasons:

    1. They got upset I found the parts cheaper and they would not price match. So that led me to two different quotes, one for the dealer buying the kit and install. Another if I brought the kit to them and they installed it.
    2. The price difference between the two quotes were maddening to say the least. They added extra pricing to the labor charge if I brought the kit which didn't make any sense other than they weren't going to do the job for anything less than quoted.
    3. There are better options out there for the price which made me think it just wasn't worth it to me.

This is my 2nd new Tacoma since 2020 and I like the truck obviously, but I am noticing the problems with Toyota lately and hope they make a pivot soon to keep customers happy. Good luck out there with finding a place to install, I'm sure you will like how it looks and rides.

My dealer had me scheduled at 9:30 a.m., and called me at 3:45 pm, saying it was ready.
    Price breakdown:
    Labor: $937.62 (no time listed)
    Kit: $1525.00
    Wire, Millimeter Wave Radar: $32.38
Along with re-calibrating the front sensors, an alignment was done. They as well did a free floor mat check. :D

Thanks. Years earlier, I went through building up a Jeep TJ, which I still own. I used an off-road shop that builds Ultra4 race cars for much of rebuilding the TJ's suspension. But it's built for a different use.

For my Tacoma, it’s for forest service access roads, basic trails, and putting a roof top tent on the back. I never thought I’d use a dealer for a lift kit. But this kit fit my needs, including the amount of lift, warranty, sensors reset, the Bilstein shocks are an improvement, and I can next fit 33s on (?). Plus, the Toyota grill on an access cab just looks unique!

I would never use the Toyota dealer for anything - just to many horror stories even for simple stuff like an oil change. You can easily get a better lift set up with better parts that cost less than what the dealer provides. As far as labor you can do it yourself (except the alignment) in your driveway with the help of a friend - it all just bolt on stuff. But still if you don't want to do it yourself there are plenty of shops that would probably do it for less than the Toyota dealer. A third option is ask a mechanic to help you do it and offer them $500 or $600. But you definitely need to take to a shop for an alignment.

As far as the TSS - I have changed out my grill (the actual location may have even changed) and lifted my truck and never needed a TSS re-calibration. Although I have seen on this forum people having TSS issues as a result of both (grill and lift change) . . . so go figure.

I get all that about cost, parts, and using a dealer. I have a co-worker who did a lift in his driveway on his Ram with the help of a mechanic, and he’s got problems with it. Sure, you can pay someone less, and that may or may not work out. There is always risk in modifying a suspension. Best thing to do... leave it stock. :)

I can't speak to what is involved with a RAM - but that mechanic your friend had help could be the same mechanic (or one just like him) you are going to get at the Toyota dealer. But un-bolting old shocks and bolting on new shocks and a lift block (which BTW I would never put on my truck) how on earth can you screw that up on a Tacoma. The nice thing about have a mechanic (who is friend is a plus) help you is they have all the right stuff like breaker bars and torque wrenches and extra jack stands. I had a certified Toyota mechanic help with some stuff and now he is my friend and a really good guy to boot.

The only reason I went with the dealer was to ensure that the cameras and sensors were accurate. And I agree 100% that the kit and installation is way...overpriced for what you get. If you shop around the various dealers and get quotes, you can play one against the other to get the best price.

I installed the parts myself, in my garage with a shitty impact and a small compressor. I added AAL to the rear and it took me like 6 hours for it all.

No TSS recalibration and all is well

It would be a good idea to get an alignment though.
