So this last weekend we (my son and I) removed the double din stock head unit in favor of a Nakamichi single din. I had the metal sleeve that came with the Nakamichi and thought I would be fitting that sleeve that normally surrounds a single din radio and bending the metal tabs to lock it in. Upon removing the stock radio w/side brackets, I thought maybe these brackets will work for a single din radio.

Lo and behold if you flip the brackets, they work perfectly for a single din radio. Looks like Toyota engineers thought that one out. Anyways, just thought it would be a nice bit of information to keep folks from installing a Metro dash kit, which IMO looks cheap,

Ya, perfect fit. $10 more gets ya (or did?) one of these little pockets from Metra that will go above or below. In a space-challenged cockpit, I'll take anything I can get.

Government warning - anything not rubberized, velcroed, or otherwise tethered to the pocket will be ejected as soon as you start moving. And there's a 42% chance it'll wind up in whatever is in the cupholder.

I just picked up a small shelf from Scosche and will be lining it with some felt carpet to keep things from sliding around.

must be a an oldie but a goodie! they haven't really been commonplace in the single din market for quite some time!

Thanks Sandman, I've got about three units I pulled out of vehicles I sold back in the day. A Nak CD400, CD45z and the flagship CD700, some McIntosh amps, and a bunch of Audio control units. With my son getting this truck, I'm able to enjoy some of the stuff again. They just don't make them like this anymore.

I guess back in the day it was ADS, Mcintosh, Nakamichi and today it's Audison, Moscow, Morel, etc.... I think Sony and Pioneer still make a few high end audiophile head units and they look super nice.

There's something about an old school unit that makes them special.

That's definitely a special head unit. Bonus points for period correct.
