I was unable to find this info in current threads, so looking for some advice. I have a mid travel setup with 2.5 kings and TC UCAs currently. I’m about to rebuild the UCAs and put new CV axles because they're leaking as well. My LCAs (stock) are extremely worn at the bushings and ball joint so my plan is to also install new TC LCAs at this time. My question is: I noticed that they say for long travel setups and the expedition series LCAs you need a longer axle shaft in order to retain 4WD. If I have the mid travel setup do I need these? Are the longer axles and LCAs what make it long travel? Can I buy the standard series LCAs they offer and avoid extending the axle shaft or will these not work with the 2.5 kings since it’s not stock length? Thanks in advance for the information.

    Enough for now
long travel refers to a suspension made for more than the standard distance of suspension cycling, 14" or more I believe. if you dont have a long travel set up then the standard LCAs should fit your needs.

No you would not need extended axles if the lower control arms you are buying are stock width. Only need that if you are buying a long travel kit

What makes a kit long travel is the control arms. Both the upper and lower control arms and extended outwards and engineered to be able to cycle more wheel travel. Just not possible to get those numbers with the stock geometry. The extended axles are not what makes it long travel but you need them if you want to keep 4wd. Also would need extended tie rods/brake lines if you want to go that route.

Thank y’all for the info. So what I’m understanding is I can buy the standard series total chaos LCAs and they will work even though I have kings and TC UCAs already. I was worried these standard series TC LCAs would only work the stock suspension setup. I definitely do not want to go the long travel route but would like to upgrade the LCAs to total chaos ones.

    Stock width or OEM width.
Thats a bit of money for just stock width. Why aren't you just replacing your LCA stock arms with new bushings?

    I assume these? : https://www.chaosfab.com/product/2016-2022-Toyota-Tacoma-Stock-Length-Lower-Control-Arms-86500-16

2k plus install....keep in mind you really arent gaining anything other than looks. you also have to maintain them. Bushing squeak is a real thing, needing to grease is required. Plus Uniball replacement

Yeah you can run them if you want to upgrade but as a couple people have said the oem lowers work just fine if you rebuild them. Save you almost 2k for something that practically does the same thing.

I may look into replacing the components of the OEM LCAs then. I definitely think the price is a lot but have been happy with my TC UCAs and I do service them when I change the oil. I was under the impression that my LCA bushings and ball joint wore out so fast because I was running kings and UCAs with the stock LCAs and that the TC ones would be a better fit, as opposed to just for looks.
