Attached is a picture of my son's 2007 with it's rusted rocker panels. I have 2 questions:

    1. Are both parts marked with the "X" together called the 'rocker panel?" Or does the part with the x on the left have one name and the part on the right have a different name?

    2. If I wanted to make a project out of cutting the rot out and somehow patching it, what would that involve? Are these pieces structural? Or is it enough for me to make it look good enough?

I've watched a bunch of videos and I've seen slip on replacement parts but none for a Tacoma. Anyone seen a source for Tacomas?440030201_1225921371709712_3744694119041648268_n.jpg

I'd try cleaning it up with a wire bush and see what it looks like. If it isn't too bad, it just use something to neutralize the rust and the prime and paint.

If you end up cutting it, you'll be using a cutting disc and removing spot weld by either grinding or drilling out the welds. You'll have to weld in the repair panels. Below are some links for 1st gen Tacomas. Do a Google search and there are a ton of videos on automotive sheet metal repair. Nothing special about doing sheet metal repair on a Tacoma.
