    but it is somewhat organized!

lol, only a few high end pieces, and they're all in use in other area's of the house ;) i'm what'd best be defined as a budget audio enthusiast. nothing in my collection is worth anything significant, all of it came from the three G's. goodwill, garage sales, and garbage day.

it's a hobby to build, tear into, and change around and valuable to me for personal reasons, not a monetary-valuable collection. i routinely get things from friends and acquaintances, and will also give away whatever someone's looking for if they need it for cheap/free as well. i'm always more interested in the journey than the destination.

the bench currently has 3 future-bluetooth speakers waiting on rainy-day funding to clear. 2 additional speaker pairs are there for a toolbox speaker project that i'm letting marinate-- i like the enclosures for the purpose, but haven't found the parts i really like to make the enclosures work the way i want.

a majority of the speakers in this picture were either frankensteined from various parts or were refurbished.

    That's awesome!

So, I was a big audiophile myself so I was always dabbling in rolling tubes and the sort.

When it came to old school speakers (falling into borderline budget audio as well), there's nothing finer than anything offered by Polk.

A perfect blend of amazing 2 channel imaging, with tight bass response and natural highs would be a pair of SDA 1C's

If you wanted to experience something truly amazing, you'd move up to their TL line of SDA speakers

I've had plenty myself as I collected a good majority of them not to mention having even a unique, one time run of an SDA compendium (written by a published author/doctor on the Polk forum)

Got rid of everything audio-related after leaving Chi-town (huge audiophile community there) and all I've got left is a Peachtree Decco and Nova somewhere in my storage

Give me a sec and I'll grab that compendium and an old school brochure I've kept for many years now

    @soundman98

I'd wager that you would even get rid of most of your gear if you got yourself a pair of vintage Polks

You owe it to your ears to try a set

    20240623_203440.jpg

The compendium has everything from every model, variations of, all part numbers, schematics, original literature, instruction manuals, modifications, and more

We call it the SDA Bible

Used to have direct contacts with Polk itself but that was years back

Heard of Stephen Sank? That deserves another thread lol no more derailing from me

    that compendium is really cool.

i don't know anything about stephen sank-- given my more modest upbringing, i've always fallen quite far outside the audiophile world.

i've got a set of jensen g610b triaxial speakers that i keep for entertainment value. their crossovers really need to be rebuilt, but that would likely drastically damage their value, of course their value is drastically effected because the crossovers need rebuilding... i also can't source 16 ohm stereo L-pads anywhere...

those sent me down a large rabbit hole for some time gathering any and all info i could on chicago-based jensen audio company before they were bought out, shipped out, and watered down. i've ended up with the crossover schematics, and a few different sets of sales brochures. but it's really as far as i've ever gone for a set of speakers. other than that, they're all just big toys for me. while i've definitely got my favorites, there's really no speaker that would make me give up the tinkering. it's not about making or being the best, it's just about either fixing what's broken, or building something out of a bunch of parts that were otherwise deemed useless.

the most interesting speaker stuff i've come across though has to be jbl's dc-biased capacitors...

You sir, are perfect for either - modding audio equipment or building DIY setups.

Point to point is supposed to be "cleaner" in terms of noise/distortion

(Pulled from my old photobucket album )

Old point to point on the left, next to a clone Model 7 preamp on the right

Interesting sump pump setup. I have the watch dog back also. Never seen one set up like that. What’s the connection between them before the check valve for?

Thanks! Yeah I hadn't heard of those until my brother showed me and he actually bought it for me. I have another 3 panels to the left of the door where I have some hand tools. I really like the way all the accessories mount to the panels and there are so many different types of hooks/accessories to buy.

Wait, the Milwaukee radio doesn’t have Bluetooth? :bananadead:

I’ll add that to the list of Milwaukee item I have no intent of owning.
