Newbie question. Coming up for air after way too much Googling and YT'ing down the rabbit hole. I want front and rear with parking detection. Do not need interior cam. I swap between the 4G Tacoma and BMW G82.

Question 1: Should I wait for the September-ish release of Dongar's parking mode? The plug n play seems easiest.

    Until then....

Question 2: Can you get parking detection with a Viofo 2CH or using two 119 Mini 2?

I'm in the Garmin ecosystem for multisport use. I've read their cameras and app are nowhere near Viofo quality. Leaning toward the Garmin 57 and Mini 2. There is a $40 OBD option which I believe gives parking detection.

YT search shows BMW is finicky with some OBD (I'll xpost on the BMW forum). No issues with Viofo hardwire and the like.

Question 3: Between the aforementioned Garmin and Viofo for my two vehicles, what is the better durable option for swapping between cars regularly with parking lot detection AND the bonus of Starvis 2?

    Thank you.

    1. The dongar plug and play this is easy. But it’s usually not difficult to pull a pillar and run wire down a pillar to the fuse box and tap.
    2. I won’t recommend either. I kinda hate the individual Garmin setup. I’ve installed them syncing to two devices sucks. I’ve installed a couple of Viofos, but no long experience with them. We primarily do Thinkware and a side of BlackVue.
    3. I tried the swapping back and forth, for a month. Decided to just get a second so as to not have to worry about it. The one day I forget to swap would be the day I get into an accident. I regularly pull the one off my Tacoma when I have a rental car. I used the hardwire kit in the taco, and keep the 12v plug/cigarette lighter handy for when I travel. My rental cars will at least have a front cam for the few days here and there.
